The ladies hosted a charity tournament on Wednesday night at the Seneca Casino, the location of the Tour Championships. You could enter a team of 4 for $100, or enter single for $25, and get paired up. My friend, Dan Lewis (D_Lewis on AZB) twisted my arm (didn't take much twisting) into going and playing the event.
It was a rotating shot format - 9 ball, everyone shoots one shot in rotation. Teams played for 20 minutes, and the total number of wins were counted. The pro players were randomly drawn, and put together with the 4 amateur players. The two teams with the highest number of wins would play a race to 2 final.
WHAT A BLAST!!!! Dan and I ended up getting put together with two other guys from Canada, so we got named "Team Canada" fairly quickly into the event. We drew Monica Webb as our pro. MONICA ROCKS!!!!! For anyone who has had a chance to meet Monica, you'll know what I'm talking about. During the tournament, heckling is mandatory - they called it the "Jeanette Lee" rule. Monica is pretty serious on the table, but away from the action, she was quite the entertainer. Her "sharking" won at least one rack for us during the event.
Long story made short - WE WON THE EVENT! Monica was awesome. It came down to Monica's "Team Canada" vs Line Kjorsvik's "Team Buffalo", and was a race to 2. We ended up winning 2-0, with Monica coaching our shooter on a tough 4-9 combo, and he drilled it. The funniest part - the way that Monica jumped and did the fist pump, you would have sworn that she had just won the World Championship. No, she isn't competitive....
Anyways, if any of you ever have the opportunity to be involved in something like this, PLEASE GO. It was awesome, and the money went to charity. For my $25, I got to play with Monica for a few hours, and played against Julie Kelly, Allison Fisher (Jeanette has nothing on Allison when it comes to sharking), Line Kjorsvik and Sarah Rousey. For an additional $20, I got to challenge the pro of my choice. I decided to play Monica, because I really enjoyed my time with her.
The ladies ROCK. Monica Webb is freaking AWESOME. "Nuf said.
