What is expected? North Korea shoots their defectors. Seriously, though, what are these countries supposed to do to prevent their citizens from leaving? The U.S. expects those countries to force their citizens to stay? Perhaps they expect them to criminalize leaving for a better future?
Currently most asylum seekers to the U.S. are completely bogus, but now you will give them a valid asylum reason to enter the U.S. legally.

Most countries, including the USA, require passports and visas, which are checked at designated border crossing sites, in order for their citizens to travel to another country...not too much to expect or too difficult.

And most countries, including the USA, allow you to leave. The U.S. now expects these countries to shut their borders down to their own citizens. This is what North Korea does and the U.S. considers it a human rights issue. If a North Korean illegally leaves that country, he is considered a refugee.

Ridiculous response...

No civilized country allows thousands of it's citizens without passports and visas to gather, cross their border illegally, and invade other countries. Comparing this reasonable and legal requirement with countries like East Germany that totally shut down their borders is rhetorical and disingenuous.

Shame on you.

Shame on me for discussing it. I'm sure those countries have a great way of securing their foreign aid from the U.S. without unkindness towards their own citizens.
