Issues starting, lol

The Brunswick guy here is saying that I may need to fix the board on top because it's too damaged and probably won't take the staples to hold it enough in place

And the rubber would be a good idea to replace, but this one I was expecting

Any idea about what to do with the staples? pics below

Yup, that will have to be routed out with new wood fitted. I would replace the rubber as well. That't the original rubber and it appears to have some attempt to keep it fastened to the subrail with a nail or screw. I'd wager that table didn't play very well prior to it being broken down for transport.

By comparison, this is the underside of my GCI rails when I tore it down for transport.

Yea.....if I were you, I would have someone work on those rails for you. Have the cloth staple down area replaced as mentioned and at the same time have the rails extended. Providing you want tighter than 5” pockets. Replace the cushions obviously and don’t go with anything but superspeeds. Replace floating nuts in the rails. Most whom pickup a table out of a commercial environment will usually face the same issues. It’s common for the age of the table. That’s all the bad news but once that’s all done and assuming it’s all done right you will have a great playing table.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

I came here to ask for some directions and opinions if I can have any insights I truly appreciate

I'm searching for my first table, I play pool and snooker for a long time, but I'm only a casual player.

So, what I'm looking for is for a good pool (wife is trying to learn and says snooker pockets are too small, oh well), something that would last few years without me regretting not buying something better.

Right now, I have a few options:

all 9 feet
Dufferin Challenger CAD 1800
Canada Billiard BLACK CROWN CAD 1800
Brunswick Gold Crown 1 CAD 1500
Brunswick Gold Crown 3 CAD 2500

All of them in good shape; the GC3 is in excellent condition other than their felt; all of them will need felt replacement.

Anyway, can anyone give me some thoughts to help me decide?

Thank you very much.

FL

PS, if I post in the wrong place, please move or delete it.

Table do not wear out, it is the slate I would worry about, if they are wood they can be restored, or refinished.

Pre Owned table are a pleanty, and you do not have to pay with your first born, and money.

I like Gold Crowns, they are very functional. Good hunting.

I feel your pain, but thanks for the pics. They will help me in a sale of my very clean original Gold Crown I.

Hope everything works out for you.

While I figure out what to do with the rails I can restore the skirts and feet

You are headed down the wrong path! Jack Zimmerman does great subrail work. There are others out there. Pay the money once and be done with that problem for ever.

Awesome. Hopefully it’s a labor of love. Please keep us updated. I enjoy seeing the progress when people restore these tables.

Consider shipping your rails. I don't know shipping costs from Canada to the US and back but within the US the cost isn't prohibitive.
