I was watching the Efren Reyes/Bobby Pickle match from the Derby City tournament a few years back and was wondering if there were any more examples on YouTube of big underdogs winning. Pickle got every roll in a short race and took down one of the best ever.

Can't remember the exact year but somewhere around 2007-2008....At the BCA at the Riviera in Vegas Bobby Pickle was there...It was right after he had gotten out of jail...
There was a gambling table where every one would challenge for money....Pickle held that table quite a bit...Won quite q bit of money...

But what I wanted to say was that BCA, because Bobby had just got out of jail let him play in the OPEN Division 8 ball....He went thru the field like butter, undefeated and took home the $7,000 prize money....Real goof on BCA part...They should of known Bobby's reputation...They said they did it because he hadn't touched his cue for a year while in jail...He could play some top speed pool....Not afraid to play anyone it seemed...

Bobby could play with about anyone on a bar box. That's what's great about watching his match with Reyes. Knowing he's a bar box player and winning because of getting the rolls.

That match is NOT the only time Pickle beat Efren either. There as an IBC tournament at JOB's in Nashville one time where the matches were 2 out of 3 sets races to 6 or 7 and Pick win 2 sets with Efren only winning 4 games total.

Pickle also beat Parica too and finished with a pretty high cash for a guy that was supposedly a bar box specialist but was also known to beat champions on the 9 footer as well. Tommy D.

I sat table-side at that match. It was classic BP: he had his wife/girlfriend bringing him one Bud after another and the more he slammed the looser he got. Between games he was doing a "USA,USA" cheer to the delight of all there. Yes, he did get some JUICY rolls but also shot LIGHTS-OUT. Efren, the consummate gentleman, just tapped his cue and said "Good shot". AAH, the old ExecutiveInn was the NUTS.

Bobby did like his beer...The time he won the 8 ball Open in Vegas my friend came to me as I was passing thru and asked me,"who is this guy I'm playing? Do you know him"? I asked him. "why?" "Because he's pouring beers down like there is no tomorrow" He said, " in between shots he falls asleep in his chair...I tell him he's up and he gets up and runs out."

I said, "Oh..That's Bobby pickle"...."He does that all the time"....My friend didn't win a game.....

Scotty and Pickle were a pick-em in my book, just a matter of who was right that day.

James,on the other hand, was rumored to be trying to match up with Pick in Memphis one time where the line was Pickle getting the 7-8 playing 9 or 10 ball.

I knew Pick was a hell of a player,so I asked James about trying to spot a guy that strong.

James told me that the bigger the bet the better he liked his end,to the point where he said if the bet got up into 5 figures he thought he was like 70/30 the best of it.

That tells you how bad ASS James is . Tommy D.

Is Bobby Pickle not alive anymore? People are talking about him in past tense , as if he is not around anymore. I seen him at JOB's Billiard Club back in around 2005 I think, and he was playing another local (great player). They were going back and forth all night long (neither of them making any errors, or rarely). I thought he had a really unique stroke.

I've met him a few times before he went away. I'm no Bobby Pickle expert but, he had a great personality and huge amount of raw talent. At that time, I had no knowledge of his criminal past. What really struck me was that he was not stupid, when he wasn't drunk or jacked up on some drug. This guy could've been or done anything that he wanted to do in life. His family got him into crime at an early age and he never broke free of the life.

I miss him in the pool world but I also believe he is where he belongs. Actions have consequences. What a shame.
