I am soliciting ideas and interest for a 65 & over big table 9 Ball Tournament. How many players do you think would play?

Peoria, Il, most likely limited to 64 players, played over 3 days, straight races on both sides, no jump cues

I will in 10 years from now when I reach the age limit.

That being said they get several hundred over 65 players at the Super Billiards Expo if I remember correctly.

I LOVE BIG TABLE POOL.

You want BIG attendance there- 3 things you MUST do! Offer very good prize money 1-6, valid proof of age must be valid US Drivers License or Passport, Eliminate from the tournament the same 4-6 guys at that age who have been winning in these things for the last 15 years since the 0ver 50 tournaments at Valley Forge. Otherwise, why bother to go- just to line their pockets again - there are several 65 year olds+ that are basically pros for that age but still allowed to continually compete and win amateur senior events- I mean constantly the same few names - otherwise they need to play each other in round 1.

Will it be open to those of us taking social security at 62?

Seriously, though, there are many over 65 who still play jam up. I think you'd do best to have it in Florida, and you probably want to play either 14.1 or one pocket.

I think it's a cool idea.

Who’s the best in that category? Parica? Sigel? I don’t think efren is that old yet

Pat Fleming, who is about 70, still competes at quite a high level.

Don't leave out guys like Varner and Hopkins. They're in the conversation. Ray Martin is over 80 but still runs 100+ at straight pool.

Not sure whether 14.1 specialist Danny Barouty is 65 yet. Ditto for one-time 300 ball runner Jose Garcia.

For 65 and Older, I'd think either:

10 Ball Race to 7,
9 Ball Race to 9,
8 Ball Race to 11, etc.

At least until you've eliminated half or more of the field. Then increase the Race to #.

Heck, 7 Ball is a great game too.

I think it would be good to do something other than double elimination. Figure out something that will keep all of the tables busy for most of three days.

I think the idea to ban the good players is a really bad one.

I think that you will not get a lot of players to go to Peoria unless the event is somehow connected to something larger or you have a lot of added money. That is especially true for a first-time event. How many years were you planning on running this at a minimum? How are you going to convince the players that you are real?

All good points Bob, my wife bought the local pool hall over 2 years ago { approx. 8000 sq ft }and has done great things with it, 13- 7' diamonds and 5- 9' diamonds, great food, gaming machines, nice atmosphere and plenty of seating. Judex James, a name that many of you probably don't know is retired now and works for her. He used to play on the Senior Tour and knows his way around the table even at 77. Many a good players have been thru this town over the years, it is easy to get to and right in the middle of the country. Bergman, Hatch, Styer and Klatt have been here recently and am sure will tell you we are real. For those of you who know good table mechanics, we use Jack Zimmerman out of Indiana, please feel free to ask him about us. Plenty of 65+ players from the Chicago area, Nick Varner is not far away, nor is Mark Wilson. I am sure we could get good sponsoring to make it worth while and get some legends in the door.Appreciate all of the input, please check out our Facebook page.
