Spongy leather wrap

I currently use a Lucasi LHT88 butt on my playing cue.
It's the the one with the rubber/sports grip handle.
The handle is very slightly spongy/cushiony/compressible. Which I like.

It is possible to have a custom cue made with a stack leather or normal leather wrap that replicates this slight spongyness?

Thanks

Normal leather will not feel like the man made material.

I think you will find that most cuemakers will shy away from such an inferior solution as those rubber/sportsgrips are. Stacked leather will not feel anything like the rubbergrip. The bigger point is that the wrap channel needs to be alot deeper for the rubbergrips, compared to regular leather and linen. I swear and cuss each time a customer brings me a Lucasi or Predator with those wraps and wants to change to a regular leather wrap.

So it's not possible to have a deeper channel and use thicker leather,
or even a deeper channel and have a leather wrap over a cork/neoprene wrap.

Would either of these solutions be achievable and result in a slightly softer feeling handle?

You want to stay away from cowhide, shark and elephant ear as they are dense hard leathers. You might try kid or my favorite pigskin. Pigskin is a nice soft absorbent leather

Yes, it's all possible but would it give you the feel you want...not sure. Perhaps selecting a softer, on the thick side, leather, might. You have to think about how the changes will affect the wrap groove in case you don't like it or change your mind in the future.

Softer feel can be acquire but spongy requires more work. :)

Is a cork wrap available in black?
I’ve never even seen a picture of one.

Good question. I don't know. I've seen brown with black specks in it and natural cork. I've been away from cork wraps for years. MANY YEARS. I don't know what's available today or even if you can dye it properly.

I don't want to open a can of worms, but how about a can of this stuff.

Flex Seal Spray Rubber Sealant

https://www.amazon.com/Flex-Seal-Rubber-Sealant-Coating/dp/B00ECGTK4K

Has anyone ever experimented with this stuff as wrap or coating over a wrap?

Say, maybe a very thin wrap groove filled in with this stuff and sanded down to a smooth finish?

You opened a can of foam.
hahaha!
Tried that sh8 to fill-out a carbon tube.
What a freaking mess.

Won't stick and last as a wrap.
Can't sand the stuff anyway.

Those Lucasi and Pred wraps are REALLY FREAKING THICK.
You might need TWO to THREE layers of cork wrap.
Or use furniture vinyl cover.

LOL.

Thanks for the info, Joey.

What is the stuff they use for a rubber coating on those really cheap Cuetec cues?

I have one and like the feel of it.

It isn't soft and it is very thin, but I like the feel of it.
