Need some Vegas vacation trip suggestions

when I went out in 03 it was for the BCA event held at the Riveria, but i was out there 11 days, in that time, we ate at various buffets. all pretty reasonable, the grand canyon was way to far for my tastes (forget but i think it is like a 4 hour hellicopter ride) imagine a bus.

I went to the Hoover damn (1 hour away) and head a good time, I'd visit the web page above for more. have fun.

also there are shows in the casinos at night, when i was there Leanne Rimes, zz top and journey was there

Hands down the best buffet at any price is the seafood buffet at the rio. My friends and i never miss it when we are in vegas. At $40/person i can tell you this.....you have no excuse to leave there having eaten less than at least $100 worth of food. Their primerib is a bonus too. For steak i recommend Emeril's place inside the Venetian called Delmonicos, but you will need reservations placed at least a week in advance. Have a great time.

First stop is Ceasers Palace. It is a must. The food is great, the atmoshpere is better, and the over the top opulence is something to see.
Also, there is some pretty great indoor shopping in ther "outdoor" shopping area. Plus night clubs. Do whatever you want but you aint been to Vegas until you stop at Ceasers !!

Also, all the buffets pretty much are terrific. The Bellagio buffet is rated at the top, and it is darn good. I think it is about $40 per person... you can't go wrong.

Can't go wrong with a show or two. Keeps the little lady happy too! You can find some coupons at the hotels..

Cheap gambling is off the strip. The smaller casinos in the older section usually offers the lower stakes as they cater to the locals. Mornings are better for low table stakes. Night time they jack them up.

The Casinos themselves are the attraction. Take a cab to the strip, and after you hit Ceasers, hit the rest. Luxor, New York, Paris, etc. etc.

And remember, when you are winning, you are not playing with the casinos money !! ONce it is on your side, pocket at least half so you don't give back the other half. I wish I had a nickel for every guy that said it didn't matter, because he only lost the casinos money ?? No, once it is on your side it is yours, DON"T EVER give it back..... it's not easy getting it the first time, and it won't be any easier the second time around.

You will save some money if you go to 'Half Price Tickets'. Some of them have discounts on food also. Cost $2/per person for the discount, but it is often 50% off or so. I ate some pretty good buffets and nice restaurants for good prices.

claymont...The best magic show in Vegas now is Chris Angel. His show is, to be blunt, FREAKIN' AMAZING. He performs at the Luxor. If you have watched any of his shows on A & E Network, you'll have a little idea of his magic. Some of the stuff he does is unbelievable!

Pool - Pool Sharks or Cue Club. The Rum Runner for bar boxes.
Food - Most buffets are a good value but quality can be hit or miss.
Entertainment, magic - David Copperfield will be in town at the MGM. Pretty good.
Entertainment, cheap but good - The Neil Diamond impersonator at the Riviera (only if you or the wifey are Diamond fans. Even Neil Diamond likes this guy)
Cheap gambling - Downtown on Fremont Street
Day trip - Besides the Grand Canyon, the town of Oatman is interesting.
Other points of interest - The dancing waters of the Bellagio, St. Mark Square at the Venetian, Fremont Street Experience light show on the canopy (each hour on the hour, in the evening).

Seriously??? I thought this was the worst show I've ever seen behind a kindergarden musical. It was so unrealistic and outrageously staged even my wife was looking at me and asking "why the hell are we here and you payed for this." His stuff on TV is AWESOME but live it was the biggest drag ever.

I enjoyed just seeing all the casinos the first time you are there. It seemed to me like no matter how much you pre plan the first time is a learning trip for the future trips

• Is there anything going on pool related during this time?
  Where is a decent place to play some? Could be either a pool room or a bar. Would you even bother to take your equipment if you're out there for five actual days time?

Mickey's Cues and Brews on South Eastern Blvd is the nicest place in town. Cue Club and Pool Sharks are OK. Don't go alone late at night.

• I was thinking of taking the day trip (by a bus tour) to the Grand Canyon, anybody ever done that, is it worth it? What else is interesting to go visit?

Take your rental car and drive along the West side of Lake Mead to Valley of Fire. Worth the drive for the scenery. Same with Red Rock Canyon. Go West out Charleston Blvd till you reach the park entrance. Much easier to sightsee in your car. The bus goes along a set route and time schedule.

• What else would be of interest to do while there?

Shark tank at Mandalay Bay. Art collections at Wynn and Venetian. Las Vegas Motor Speedway on Route 15 Northeast of the city.

If you go to Ceasars in the evening, go to the shops outside of the casino area, there will be free shows periodically at each fountain. Also they have a free Pirate show in front of Treasure Island. Make sure you watch the free fountain show in front of the Bellagio.

Go Downtown to Fremont Street for the light show experience at night. They light up the awning over the street. The rooms are inexpensive at the casinos there. The minimum bets are lower and cheap drinks.

zy112...Wow! I have to admit that I haven't seen his live show yet (watched EVERY one of the tv series), and I was going off what I've seen on tv. I know there's more 'staging' involved (and I've seen all the other guys...Sigfried & Roy, Copperfield, Lance Burton, etc), but I figured it had to be pretty impressive, due to what I've seen on tv. From what you say, that's just not the case, I guess. That's disappointing, but I'll probably have to "see it for myself" anyway!

Yea I'd like to hear what you think when you go see it yourself. I thought the same thing about the TV show and was so excited when we got tickets but equally disappointed afterwards. Hell, they coulda just had a big screen with his TV show and it would have been better LOL. Maybe its just me but I would NEVER go back. The shows I seen for less than half the price were way better.

two words...... Indoor Skydiving the place is right near the Riv. Fairly inexpensive.

ask Fatboy. he posts here on az and lives in las vegas. he's a heck of a guy and i figure he'll be able to point you in the right direction as far as pool related activities in LV
