Break Stats -- Tunica 10-Foot 10-Ball, June 2013 - 06-25-2013, 09:24 PM

Here are some break statistics for all 9 of the Diamond Bigfoot 10-Ball Challenge matches streamed by Inside Pool and Accu-Stats from the Southern Classic in Tunica, MS.

The conditions for this event included: Diamond 10-foot tables with approx. 4 1/2" (4 7/16"?) corner pockets, Simonis cloth, Diamond wooden rack, winner breaks, rack your own, break from anywhere behind the line, no jump cues allowed, all slop counts except spot any 10-ball made on the break in either foot-rail pocket, and a 40-second shot clock (last 3 matches only).

The 9 matches (159 games) were as follows:

Fri., June 21 -- Van Boening def. Orcollo 11-6 and Burford d. Deuel 11-6.

Sat., June 22 -- Economopoulos d. Can 11-6 and Biado d. Feijen 11-7.

Sun. June 23 -- Pinegar d. Biado 11-5 and Van Boening d. Pagulayan 11-6.

Tues., June 25 -- Boyes d. Pinegar 11-7, Van Boening d. Burford 11-9, and Boyes d. Van Boening 11-8.

Overall results -- The breaker made at least one ball (and did not foul) 56% of the time (89 of 159), won 53% of the games (85 of 159), and broke and ran 19% of the games (30 of 159).

Here's a little more detailed breakdown of the 159 games.

Breaker made at least one ball and did not foul:
  • Breaker won the game: 55 (35% of the 159 games)
  • Breaker lost the game: 34 (21%)

Breaker fouled on the break:
  • Breaker won the game: 5 (3%)
  • Breaker lost the game: 10 (6%)

Breaker broke dry (without fouling):
  • Breaker won the game: 25 (16%)
  • Breaker lost the game: 30 (19%)

Therefore, whereas the breaker won 53% (85) of all 159 games,

- He won 62% (55 of 89) of the games in which he made at least one ball on the break and did not foul.
- He won 33% (5 of 15) of the games in which he fouled on the break.
- He won 45% (25 of 55) of the games in which he broke dry but did not foul.
- He won 43% (30 of 70) of the games in which he either fouled on the break or broke dry without fouling.

10-balls on the break: One that counted as a win; twelve that were spotted. Eleven of those spotted 10-balls occurred in the last three matches on Tuesday (ten in the last two matches!).

How many players? - 06-26-2013, 05:38 AM

I've seen multiple threads about brackets, how many players, etc. But I never saw an answer. Does anyone know officially how many players were in the tourney? Did they get 16? There are only 10 names in At Large's stats analysis.

I don't know if you noticed the last sentence in post #1 -- something quite strange.

The 10-ball was pocketed on the break 10 times in a foot-rail pocket in the last 2 streamed matches (11 times in the last 3 matches)! It seemed to go toward the right (from the player's view) foot-rail corner pocket regularly.

In the Bigfoot Challenge at the last Derby City Classic, pocketing the 10-ball in any pocket on the break counted as a win. Fortunately, it did not count as a win at the Southern Classic if the 10-ball went in either of the foot-rail pockets. Otherwise, we would have witnessed a real travesty in the semi-finals and finals.
