I have seen battles for $20 for 10 games or so going range for total of $80 but then again, there were stories that ranged for $1000 for a race of 9 or something like that.

I think around 5 or 6 grand to a pro down here... I think it was Sky who played him and lost. I don't remember totally, but it was well over 3 grand.

A grocery bag

A friend and I were in Eastern PA in the mid 90s playing in tournies and traveling around having a good time. A road player from Indy and his backer showed us their bank roll. A brown, fullsized paper grocery bag. I don't know exactly how much was in there but it was over 10k. My friend and I had maybe 2500 between us. As far as on the table 5k. I wasn't involved in the game however.

Well mine would have to be several.... lets see...

Corey beating Tony Watson for 3 Large at the old q-masters on norview ave.

SAw Cliff Joiner giving Hooker 10/4 in 1 pocket for 200 banabas..cliff beat him so bad Hooker asked for more weight. So cliff told him i can give you 10/3 but we gotta double the bet to 400 bananas. Hooker won the 1st game and then cliff won something like the next 10 or so. Althogether i think cliff came out about 5 large for the night

also saw Alex playing Shannon Daulton 10 ahead for 5 large or 500 bananas a game with a 6am time limit. If no one had won by 6am who ever was ahead got paid 500 a game. I know that shannon was up 9 and breaking and alex came back and beat shannon. Was absolutely great to watch.

also saw the young carolina player who had to quit because of his arm play tony watson for 2000 a set and tortured him for 2 sets. before the arm problem set in

There are so many games i have seen but this is just a few......mike

And this is a true story...
After a tourney one night I was playing some guy from NY real cheap. After a couple of hours I was up like $400 and ready to call it a night because the bar was closing. After the joint kicked us out he still wanted to play. My friend with me spouts off that I have a barbox at home. The bar owner had informed me that he had lots of cash and had been losing plenty...basically gave me the nod to try him at any amount.
Well to make a long story short at about 9am the next morning I'm up bit over 3 large. The last set we played was a race to 7 for 4 grand.
I'm no shortstop so I almost figured "now he'll show a little skill & snap this off". Well he didn't get any better. He payed us $4000 in cash and I actually accepted a check from him for the $3000. He made the check good after about 90 days and numerous phonecalls.:D
Moral of the story...don't follow a man to his home and bet it up!!!;)

I'm not sure of the amount, but in Philly I saw a brief case stacked with cash exchanged as payment. A guy nicknamed after breakfast cereal was paid by another guy who's career choice was lets say less than legal:D

The guy you are talking about is John "Cornflakes" Hennigan, who also now plays on the World Poker Tour. At the Legends 1pkt in South Philly I watched and bet on Cornbread playing Cornflakes, last pocket 9ball. The stakes were 2 sets of 15k each with all the side action you wanted. Buddy Hall, Wade Crane and I each bet $600 on Cornbread who Cornflakes apparently didnt know had invented that particular game with Kenny Romberg Remus back in Detroit. Red won the first set easily and Hennigan's man was taking all bets at a small table he had set up. He asked us if we wanted to push our bet and bet the whole $1200 on the next set. Barely able to suppress a giggle, we all bet the wad. Cornflakes was a real high-roller and the Philly boys said betting big money wouldnt bother Cornflakes at all. However, Buddy, Wade's and my take on it was a little different. Yeah, Cornflakes was used to betting high with people, but he hadnt bet big money against somebody like the frightening, high-rolling creature called Cornbread Red. Our confidence was soon rewarded when Red won the second set, long-stroking, and whistling in a straight-back session ball into the super-tough, triple-shimmed pocket. Red's only complaint was that he couldnt dig up more than 30k to bet in the time Cornflakes allowed.

I cant say for sure. All I know is Romberg brought the game to Detroit to try and slow down the run-out Nine ball players and put some banking into the game.

Speaking of Romberg..I watched Beanie and Romberg play 4 out of 7 one pocket for 20k in Detroit back in the 70s..What a match!! Me and George Middleditch were the only ones even sweatin it!! Beanie is up 3-2 and has ball in hand behind the line after Romberg had sratched..He needs 2..the 6 ball is just past the side and there is a ball on the spot and he Wins!! Oops, he dogs the 6 and Romberg ends up winning the set and three more for good measure..Back in the day, they would come in and pay the following day..It was a Kodak moment watching Beanie bring in that suitcase the next day!!! Romberg just disappeared after that..

I seen a very high rolling Casino executive lose seven games of push-out 9ball at 20k a game. The poolplayer who won could have won more but he needed to work on his stall a little more. I heard the guy who went off lost around a million in one match. I got down a 500 a game side bet with one of the Casino Exec. friends. I had 1200 on me and had no prior knowledge the game was going down. I got lucky being in the right place at the right time. After I won 3500, I offered to plat 9ball with the side better and he countered with a onepocket game. After he explained the rules to me (unlike others I do understand the stall) I picked up another 3k playing 1k a game.

$50 a point Liability Snooker

We played quite a bit of liability snooker on "Big Bertha", the 6 x 12 snooker table in at Hard Times in Bellflower in the early 90's. After Morro Paez, the main action man at Hard Times had won quite a bit of $$ playing cards, the game got jacked to $50 a point & we played three long sessions of 25/30 hours each in about a week. Kim D knocked off most of the $$ (over 10k), and I knocked off a nice chunk myself (enough to take a month off work & feed the horses). There were so many players taking a shot at the game because of the action, nobody knows how much was won or lost, but several champions went busted a few times with different stake horses taking a shot at the action. Parica came to town a little while later & we started playing $50 a point again and he absolutely robbed the game, winning more than Kim did in a week in one night. Next to Denny Searcy, he was the best player I ever saw on that table and I played on it for 30 years. John Henderson

Win some , Lose some.

While in Olathe at Shooters I watched Chad W. from Minnesota beat a gentleman named Terry from St.Louis?? out of about $35,000 playing 9-ball. The next night Chad lost about $40,000 to Allen Hopkins throwing quarters closest to the wall. Grady was there that night and refereed a quarter throwing 10 ahead match between Chad and Roger Griffis for $3000. Roger won.

Not the biggest but the most interesting win I had was when I was 21. I'm now 63. $20.00 8 ball on a bar box against the homebar favorite. Big money for me then. This was in a little milltown bar upriver from Pittsburgh. Rough. I had a nasty guy with me so I wasn't bothered. I go up $140.00 net and the guy ran out of cash and wants to write checks . Under a lot of noise we say no thanks and make our exit. The homebar crowd follows us out the lot but are held back when someone recognises my partner.
We are traveling down Allegheny River boulevard thinking were home free when we see the lights gaining on us. They caught up and forced us off the road onto a remote lot. THey pulled my partner out of the car and started to dance. I figuered what the hell and got out and went for the closest guy. The last thing I remember was a feeling of flying. I wake up in a creek on my back with water running over my shoulders. They had thrown me off a twenty foot bridge . I wind up in a hospital for a week and my friend was battered up a bit. They got the money back. Not much of a win. I never went back to that bar.

Great story 12310bch, that neighborhood hasn't changed much.;) I was on a crew that worked in the mills during shut downs and at least twice a week one of our guys would get his ass kicked during a night on the town. Probably for less than 140 bucks:p

yea Freddie, I didn't just want to throw Flakes name out there while talking about large sums. I did see him on TV playing holdem, and I had to call my wife in from another room and tell her the story. She just said....what the H*ll were you doing in Philly at 3am?:D......She's protective!
