He tried to stir up some big money matches, and to no avail.

We've played in several tournaments together, and I did play the "best" player from there in the ESPN Ultimate Championships one year.....I can't remember his name though.

In Taiwan we went around to several of the action pool rooms and I did play one big gambling set and won.....we certainly sent out the world that anyone could get played and I had a "steer-man" that owned a big martial arts supply business there in Taipei. He tried to stir up some big money matches, and to no avail....I would have stayed there and played as much as possible, I'd ran out of action in the United States.

Another thing that surprised me was the lack of martial arts activity there at the time.

Did you play Fong Pang Chao?

I wish you were right. Maybe you can give those "plenty" a road map and circle Ft. Worth Texas.....I'll play them for $100 a game until their arm falls off at Rusty's Billiards. There's lots of action here in Texas, I haven't seen it this good since the 80s.

I've been seeing your posts for a while... some have useful information, some do not. This falls into the latter. I respect your ability as a player, but you're clearly very narcissistic. Why should they come to your home turf? If you want to play them, I'm sure you have enough money to fly over there, get an interpreter, and get all the action you want.

If Shane really is the greatest 10-ball player on the planet, he should have ran through that field last year at the Ultimate 10-Ball. What were the excuses when he got knocked out of the tournament?

People simply seem to have trouble coming to grips with reality, and I personally attribute it to American arrogance. It's perfectly fine to get behind your countryman, it's another thing to flat out either ignore or devalue players from other countries around the world. Shane is an amazing player. But he's not the only amazing player out there. It boggles my mind that people have to make excuses for him. If he saw this, he'd probably think we are all fools. What are the excuses for all the other great players that are no longer in the tournament? What makes Shane so special that people have to make excuses for him? I was behind him too, and I'm just as disappointed and frustrated as anyone else, but I still acknowledge the abilities of the other players in this tournament. Just like anything else in pool; if you find a weakness, you figure out a way to overcome it. Obviously, Shane's weakness is that he's a rhythm player that runs into some trouble in an alternate break format. He even said so himself. And I'm not sure what to make of this "not being able to play overseas" thing. I guess one suggestion I would make to him would be to gamble some sets using alternate break rules so he can adjust to them?

Why are people so desperately trying to convince that Shane is the best and he'll win this and that tournament like a walk in the park and then getting all angry blaming back luck and match format and whatever when he doesn't? I see only a few people giving credit to his opponents, and some reluctantly start opening their eyes when they actually see these matches live where Shane loses by a margin. When you're out of the tournament, it doesn't matter who's winning the longer races or winner breaks or whatever. You'll pack your bags and go home. Doesn't really give you any consolation that you would have had a higher probability to beat your opponent in different circumstances.

You can count titles and the money won in gambling and who has beaten someone in some part of the world, but how do you determine who's the best when the differences at the top are so marginal and top players play against each other maybe once or twice a year? I mean, this is a forum where people can exchange their opinions, but there are many people who should open their eyes. You can't really say that Shane or some other player is an undisputed king of the world. IMO Shane is sooo good that he'd definitely deserve a world title by now. I just wish there would be a real world tour with enough money to get all the best players in the world to participate all year around. To have such tournament as this Qatar WC maybe 6 times a year. And Kozoom live stream to go with it, free

He just got 5th place in huge fields stacked with the top talent in the world, in back to back overseas events. Why do people keep saying he can't play overseas? Some of the Shane-bashers can be just as myopic as the Shaniacs.

I come from an era that you could humbly match up and play for fair amounts of money

American arrogance?........ at least it's better than hypocritical humility.....

So I must have a personality disorder because I'll play anyone in America for $100 a game? Maybe you should use the bath salts to soak in instead of smoke in. :groucho:

What has this world come to, there was a day when this wouldn't have been looked at as unusual at all......I actually believe it's healthy to play $100 pool on a daily basis, and to call this narcissistic is ludicrous.......it's more of a mental disorder to mistake confidence for arrogance, and generosity for weakness.

Why should "they" come to my home turf? Why shouldn't "they", it's not like I haven't played hundreds of players in their "home pool rooms". In case you didn't notice I was responding to someone that said there was many players that would match up and gamble. I've made myself very available these last few months and again, I'm not the favorite to win against some players, the point is I'll at least give anyone some action.

You act like I don't get out and travel, a few months ago I traveled several thousand miles and played everyone possible. There are definitely players in the United States that can beat me right now, however they also know that every day it will get tougher, and tougher and tougher.......and I won't quit after 8 hours, I don't consider it to even be a test until 20, this is how I was trained. We considered anyone that couldn't stand up on their hind legs and gamble two days straight to be weak.....and most of us still do.

I come from an era that you could match up and play for fair amounts of money without it being looked at as a arrogant or narcissistic.....pool's a game, and gambling is a natural phenomenon in the game. I've played for millions of dollars in my gambling career, and I would still be gambling every day if I could. The problem these days is there's only a hand full of players that will match up and gamble on a regular basis.

There is a time coming very soon that the situation may arise that will enable me and several other players to gamble on a regular basis.....I certainly look forward to this Light at the end of the tunnel. 'The Game is my Teacher'

I don't see Shane-bashing here, I see realistic argumentation against the narrow-sighted Shane-fans who think Shane is an undisputed #1 in the world. It's just sad that Shane-fans are so blind that they don't realize the bashing has nothing to do with Shane, I'd say it's more or less an arrogant-Shane-fan-bashing. I don't see how anyone has anything against the humble and well-behaving kid who lets his shooting do all the talking. Come on people, wake up already!

Semifinals start 130pm local time (630am EST)
Niels v Haya
Chang v Ouschan

Final start 5pm local time (10amEST)

Too bad they are showing 2 semis same time instead of diff time.
Looking forward to Niels v Chang final. Though will not be surprised if one or both of underdogs Haya and Ouschan get into final :) Today is new day and form may be diff from yesterday. Niels and Chang were awesome yesterday but not sure if their form remains

I expect both semis to be lopsided affairs. Now the finals should be a doozy!

You would have LOVED to have been in Taiwan when I lived there in the early 70s for 3 years. I NEVER saw a pool table ever when I was there...only Chinese snooker tables. I lived above a snooker parlor at one time before I left. The only places I ever saw a pool table was on the American bases or in some of their larger clubs.

I LOVED it there. That was the days when the place was busy from the Vietnam war and there were THOUSANDS of military people coming and going each year...and sometimes each WEEK when the large aircraft carriers pulled into port.

I won the Captain's Cup (all Taipei, Taiwan) 14-1 straight pool tournaments in 75 and 76 and won tons of money playing 9-ball. I gambled 4-5 times a week for 3 years straight when I was there and I had about a 98% winning rate.

I NEVER saw a Chinese player come in an even play a game of pool, much less come in and beat anybody for any cash.

Pool in Taiwan came a dozen or so years too late for me. I was there and waiting for them when I was ready and there were none to be found. Now they are all world beaters.

Now it is a good thing I am too old and too smart to even think about trying to beat one of them.

They sure did learn quick! Scary isn't it. I was there also in 1978 and could only find snooker tables.

All I can tell you CJ is to play all the pool you can right now, while you're still strong and have the eyes and endurance to do it. Come your 50's and things will start to get tougher, a lot tougher! Lassiter was still the king well into his late 40's and even early 50's. Buddy and Parica are two others who stayed on top into their 50's. NO ONE wanted any part of Jose at age 50! Not even you sir.

Now Ouschan leading 3-1 and breaking

Niels still leading Haya 3-1

P.S. Sorry, am not watching Niels v Haya so only reading the score. Maybe someone else watching Niels v Haya Table 1 can update also :D

In a nutshell, Niels is leading 3-1 and all 3 rolls have gone Haya's way,
Haya missed twice and left nothing easy for Niels, Niels missed once and left
a super easy 8 and 9 for Haya.

Haya needs to pick up his game soon or it will be a massacre.

Easy B&R and Chang has evened the score 3-3
He was bit jittery at start of match now his arm is loose and he is rock and rolling like Mick Jagger. Ouschan was smooth at start but now shaky. 2 consecutive hook errors gave away 2 racks

Other match Niels v Haya also 3-3
