Hello all,
I got the cue through a trade with the owner and Troy Oldham of onthehill.net - I'd like to thank him here one more time for such a great trading experience and for all his help.
On to the cue:
It was built by Paul Mottey and was finished in April of 1995.
The cue has four ebony points with maple, ebony, maple, ebony veneers. The points are very even and not only the points themselves but the inner veneers match up too - shows great care and excellent craftsmanship.
The cue has been refinished by Scot Sherbine (here are a fraction of the Mottey cues he has worked on)Ia couple of weeks ago and have not hit a ball since then with the exception of my test play with it yesterday. The cue's finish is the nicest I have ever seen, it glitters or shines (can't really describe it English) and is perfectly smooth throughout the cue. I believe that this refinish has done a lot good to maintain the cue's structural condition for the next 14 years. You cannot feel any of the veneers, nor the points or the rings, the whole cue is perfectly flush and tight.
Oh, by the way. The cue's butt is perfectly straight as far as you can tell without a lathe. It has no wobble or whatever, it remained perfect throughout the years. By sighting down on the cue you can see NO imperfections and the tips are perfectly in line with the cue so the shafts are straight as well. I believe that a cue being this old has proven that it is structurally sound and I have no doubt that it will remain the same for the next few decades - unless it is put to the test of some serious abuse.
Shafts: One shaft has a pad and below it an ivory ferrule with what appears to be an Everest tip. It measures 13.04 mm according to my measurements with my grandfather's caliper. The other shaft has an LBM ferrule and if I remember correctly it is 12.95 - I am not at home now but will check for it when I am at home so you may know for sure. The tips are high and been shaped and put on with a lathe.
I will get all the weights later today when I acquire an accurate scale.
I simply don't know what else could I say about this cue. It is very accurate in its feel, it is very precise and consistant. I firmly believe that this will make the perfect player's cue for the next decades for anyone who opts to purchase it.
If other things didn't come in the way during the past few weeks I would hold onto it but I have to let it go.
My asking price is $1,300 that contains a 70 dollar EMS Express shipping - takes about 3-4 days from my door to yours and it doesn't cause any pain like FedEx and UPS does - and it also contains the banking fees and a set of joint protectors (one butt and shaft matches, it is appears to be rosewood or cocobolo with gold rings and another McDermott protector for the second shaft).
For an extra $130 I can send it in a Capone marked 1X2 whitten case that has a few scuffs - I can take pictures of it if you want it as well.
Please let me know your thoughts either here on via PMs or emails (it's david.bredan@gmail.com)
To sum it all up, I'll attach the pictures - I will attach a picture of me with the cue later today so you will see what you are buying and who you are buying it from.
