Chua played an amazing match. He missed two balls only. He must have shot 0.975+. Shane played well too, I only think he played a couple poor shots himself. That poor bank on the 1-ball at 9-4 was not a good choice. It looked like a double kiss that that's exactly what happened.

Chua's hyper-aggressive style and confident shotmaking reminds me of Earl or Mika. An unusual style to see a Filipino playing.

Great performance by Johann
Amazing that he has so few errors despite being out of position so many times. Heck he doesn't care if he gets out of position , he can shoot his way out
I also see that his safety game is very strong compared to couple of years ago . That safe on 1 in last rack was just wicked :D

He knows the TV table and breaking well so I see him as favorite now in final v Alcano in about 1 hr from now
A win here will be his biggest win and propel him into big stage :D
Go go kid

I see Chua was 3rd in this event in both 2012 and 2013, so he has obviously bettered that already. Looks like we're going to continue seeing Filipinos in the top ranks for many years.

[This event had a first prize of $28,600 in 2012 vs. about half as much this year!]

in 2012, chua was stopped by Ko Pin Yi in the semis. in 2013, he almost made it to the finals - lost to Chang Jung Lin on a hill-hill battle. i wish that he wins the japan open. he truly deserves it.
he was supposed to play in the US Open this year - just got denied a US visa.

 Very impressive win by Johann Chua. He has a strong break, has no problem with long distance shots, plays excellent safeties and can jump great too.

Has he been to the US already? I would like to see him match up with Dechaine, Bergman, Woodward, Dominguez, etc. From what I have seen, he will give all of them a run for their money.

Alcano made a nice comeback to win from 4-9 down. But I noticed a couple of things about him now.

1. For a while (a few years ago, probably), he seemed to be trying to imitate Eften's warm-up-stroke pattern. He seems not to be doing that now -- which I think is a good thing.

2. He seems to sometimes have a total break in form or rhythm on tough shots. On most shots he plays rather quickly with a few warm-up strokes. But occasionally he will stand there pre-stroking a couple of dozen times (even with a bridge) and then botch the shot one way or another. Odd.

Dechaine and Justin is easily another level above Skylar Woodard and Oscar.

Johann Chua can probably play even with Shane long race 10b all day long.

With his break, he's probably a bigger threat in 10b than Dennis.

arps -- On the chat, someone said Chua is 22 and someone else said 24. Do you know? Was he still a teenager when he finished 3rd 3 years ago?

 BOO..... they are NOT putting the men's final match on the tv table. They are showing the GYK vs Chihiro instead.
