This looks like the cue I had in the early 90's that I won in a raffle that John McChesney had during a tournament in San Antonio, TX. 1992. Only had the one shaft with the micarta ferrule and I use it as a break stick. I traded it for a Scruggs in 1995 to a guy in the Air Force that was retiring and going back to the Philippines. I got teased allot about using a SW for a break stick and playing with a SW that I still have.

Great cue good luck!

It may be yours. I believe this cue has made it's way around the world. :p

If the 2nd shaft isn't original, it was made a while back or a 2nd OLD sw shaft was bought with the same ringwork.

The thing about the ringwork on these cues is it darkens with age, so I'd say if the 2nd shaft isn't an original to this cue, it was made in the mid 80s. The color matches nearly perfect and that's uncommon for shafts matched up later with these cues.

I knew alot of people that used to use SWs for breakers in the Chicago area because they hit like a truck.

Thanks for the input!

The 2 with white ferules are not original because Jerry used yellow micarta until 1985. I still have the SW I got in 1989 from John McChesney with 2 shafts with yellow micarta. In 1990 I sent my SW to Jerry to have 2 more shafts made because the 2 originals were small diameter shafts. I met with Jerry in 1990 BCA nationals and he had the 2 new shafts and told me that he and DPK was helping him at the time this cue was made around 1994. In 2008 I took the cue to Laurie to get the LOA and she said the cue was made in 1990 according to her records with my name. I told her that was the 2 new shafts that were made and the nephew that does the work explained to her that it was made before 1985 because of the original shaft have the micarta. I told her I played with it in 1989 and have a picture of me holding the cue. She would not listen to either one of us and put 1986-1990 on the LOA. I keep the cue in my collection but not real happy with her. The nephew said have it x-rayed, I don't want to spend the $1000 to have it x-rayed to check the date and she would not either or cut the original wrap off. I was told that the early cues were dated when put together.

Ah, so this isnt your cue. But, we can assume by your post that the 2nd shaft on this cue was not original with the cue due to the ferrule. I can accept that. I do believe the shaft must have been made shortly after 1985 due to the darkening of the trim ring to match the butt and other shaft.

Thanks for the input. I'll concede to the belief that Micarta was used before 1985 and that the 2nd shaft is a post 85 addition.

PMs replied. Some nice trade offers, but nothing yet that really strikes me. Lambros and Bluegrass are the top 2 cues I'd be looking for as far as trades go.

Don't miss out on your chance to own a cue that only comes around once in a blue moon.

It's a good one, that's for sure. Thanks for the kind words.

PMs replied. If you're waiting to see what happens, don't, this player is dangerously close to being gone.

A serious cash offer may get this cue...if not, it'll be traded away.

xray?

what does this mean? did they put something under the wrap that would show up on xray?

He was talking about his SW, not this one, where they couldnt agree on the exact year. The Nephew said x ray it if you want to know the exact date or cut the wrap off.

So, according to his post, SWs have a date under the wrap, but you have to remove the wrap to see it or x ray it.

That's probably why Laurie puts a small window of time on the older cues before the date pins...like 1984-1986...she knows about when, but not exactly. I'd assume, that is.

xray

that's what i was figuring. reason why i ask is because i have access to xray machine. heheh.

one of the many benefits of working in the hospital. ;)

if anyone can comment on whether this is the case or not, please let me know
