Dale Perry cue

Just bought a DP cue+extra shaft+joint protectors off of Ebay on Mar 6/2012 for my daughter. My Ebay name is Rutilus99. I decided on a DP cue after having read the comments on Ebay from Dales customers (1,800 in the past 12 months).

The cue arrived three days later with shafts to my specs'. Really superb quality and compares with any cue in the $600+ range. I personally play with a Schon STL15 and have bought and sold many cues over the past 40 years.

Now looking for a pre ebay DP cue. Post your offers or PM me with what you have, I'm willing to pay a very fair price. PayPal only sale. Thanks.

What special DP are you looking for?

I do have some, but it's not very clear what you want!

Kind regards

They pop up occasionally. You can try Goggling, they show up on Craigslist once in a while, on eBay, as was mentioned.

Some advice: No early Dale Perry cues will have radial pins. Generally an early Dale Perry will have a Uni-Loc joint, but you might occasionally see a 3/8x10 or piloted joint DP. If someone claims their radial pin DP is "vintage," pass on it. Ebony DPs are always cool because Dale is so cheap now that he won't make an ebony cue.

I've had a couple of pretty cool "pre-Ebay" DPs and I've sold them here and the guys who bought them were happy with them. They are terrific shooting cues!! The "old school" DPs I had were very nice cues, but unless you can find one for less than $500 with two shafts, you'll never have any hope of getting your money back. An extraordinary specimen might be worth more than that, but always keep in mind that you're fighting with the $120 cues he's selling now.

I'm looking for one of Dale's early cues.

The ferrules on his eBay cues tend to work loose fairly often. I believe someone forgets a drop of glue in the build process. I've seen several now where the ferrule simply threaded off. And I think his method of joining sections might be a little shy on the glue as well - as one cue broke cleanly at the butt sleeve junction just behind the wrap. The "core" material seemed to be the only thing that had glue on it and it was some very pithy wood type.

But, overall, I definitely agree they are good value for the money (except when the bidders go nutz).

Dale Perry 1/1 made for me in 1996

When I first moved to jacksonville, in 1996 I had read many nice things about Dale Perry and his work. I visited his shop one afternoon and he showed me around. I wanted something very nice and unusual. He showed me a piece of snake wood and I designed an 8 pointer with snakewood, ebony points and butt sleeve, and ivory. Ivory joint, ferrules, and 48 inlays. Two shafts, 58" OAL, I believe around 19.5 oz, but will have to check. Ivory butt plate signed on the bottom 1/1, Dale Perry.

I took the shafts back to re-taper because his taper was not as long as I preferred. I may even have more shafts stored, I am not certain. I also had Dale make a break/jum,p cue. The both have unilock joints. I never really played with the cue as I was hung up using a Frank Paradise and I ahve since bought many cues. A few guests at my house have used it, however, the cue is mint. The workmanship on this cue is excellent full custom and nothing like he currently markets and probably one of his nicest. If I recall, I paid like $2700 with two Shafts in 1996.

If there is interest, I will send better specs and pictures. I will never get around to this cue with all the cues I have. I am open to deals or offers. Let me know.

all the best,
phil
