Hey, just got some of this in the mail, have enough to make two handles, one segmented and one full length...

What woods would you put with it? I'm really not too sure, I feel like ebony is too easy of an out with this.

I'd get some finish on it and see what it will look like before proceeding to choose complimetary woods. Look like it has lots of potential! Nice find.

You could choose something that closely matches the darker spots in the wood.
That may accentuate the natural contrast that already exists in the burl.
Hard to tell from a picture but maybe bloodwood? or some of the rosewoods that are on the reddish side?

From what the person who sold the wood told me the lighter spots will get a little more dark pink over time and the red will turn a dark red.

I was wanting originally to do purple heart when I saw the pictures but after seeing it in person I'm unsure.

I think a killer piece of BEM would be awesome too.. segmented handle of this into bem..

African blackwood also a huge consideration. Black palm sounds good too..

I have a bloodwood forearm cue coming later this year so I don't know about that..

Any other suggestions?

Still not sure who to have build something with it, gotta talk to a few people..

This ones a ways off anyways for me financially, but still open to suggestions on what you guys think would go well with it?

I have a segmented handle fetish so one cue will be a segmented handle merry widow ideally.

I have a couple other pieces of the stuff. There's enough to make two cues if it's all handle wood, or one handle cue + 2 pointed cues.

how about

sounds like you have enough for a forearm and butt cap. i think tulipwood points and some tulipwood in buttcap, with a nice redish-brownish leather wrap? maybe lizard
the straight grain of the tulipwood crossing the burl would make a great contrast

I have about enough for two cues.

I can do one pointed cue and one solid curly/burl handle.

Segmented handle ALL THE WAY though. I don't like wrapped cues personally.

I've even thought about a plain jane BEM / african sumac burl segmented handle with fancy fancy rings..

There's too many options and not enough wood!

Hunduran rosewood burl.

Interesting. I didn't think about that but it may just work.... Pat Diveney almost had me for $2k at the windy city cue show with a honduran rosewood burl cue he made. It was absolutely GORGEOUS. I really don't want any ivory jointed / inlaid / ferruled cues though.

Unless a Guz or Barry presented itself. That's the only ivory joint/inlaid cue I'd personally want...
