Who's going to win the Bicycle event? Looks to me like those days of the Philippino champions dominating the circuit may be a memory of the past.

Watch out, Pool World, because here comes the New Kids on the Block, Made in the USA! :p

Dag nab it, I missed the V-Bookie and couldn't get my bet in, and I had a favorite to win this event.

I gotta go with my gut instinct and predict that Danny "Kid Delicious" Basasvich, who is on a MAJOR roll this year, will win the whole shebang! :D

If I'm wrong, I'll be eating a slice of JAM's crow pie on Sunday. It won't be the first time, and it most likely won't be the last! ;)

i'm liking whoever comes out on top of the robles/davis basavich/sambojan

all four are having a great year, whoever wins in that bracket i think will eventually be standing in the end.
 
I want my American brothers to win the championships, but Asians are still the dominant players. Go go go go Scorpion!!!!
 
I'm going with my Dog, Rodney Morris, A.K.A. The Rocket, and also, The Stopper. LOL. I'm rootin for him anytime I ain't in the tournament, so, it's about 99.9% of the time.
 
Don't count out the guys from the Phillipines out yet. Efren beat Archer, Santos was tied with Basavich at 6 all when I had to leave and Luat was playing good. Basavich last night took Bustamante out of his game by stalling between shots, Walking the table time after time, chalking several times each shot, wiping the sweat off, whatever he could do to stall and freeze Bustamante. Everyone, the spectators, were upset. It was allowable since they had finished enough games in the allotted amount of time and weren't on the clock. He might have been warned as he was playing at a resonable pace in his match with Santos.

Rodney is playing incredibly good right now, and so is Basavich. Bustamante didn't miss one ball the entire match against Danny, and Danny edged him out 11-10. Danny is a fantastic player, but what impressed me more is Bustamante's nerves of steel. Danny was taking on average 2-4 minutes per shot, and yet everytime Bustamante could see a ball either Danny was locked up or Bustamante was out. This game all came down to the break, both of them breaking and running out many times.

When I saw Rodney play against Ernesto, Rodney's firepower was very impressive. He didn't even think about trying to play safe against Ernesto, he just fired at everything, and he was making the shots too. I think the reason why Rodney played like that is perhaps he wanted to avoid a safety battle against Ernesto, who plays alot of 3-cushion. Rodney has such a powerful stroke, after watching him play I went to the poolhall and was trying to copy the his stroke rythm.

Looks like JAM will be eating a little crow this weekend! :p

Efren Reyes seems to enjoy competing overseas due to the multitude of tournament opportunities, and I can't blame him either. It's nice to see him playing in the States at the Bicycle event. I mean, after all, the Billiards Congress of America voted him in their Hall of Fame. He's got a strong fan base wherever he goes, but Americans admire, respect, and like watching Efren play.

Don't count Johnny out just yet, though. I've seen him come back from the B side of the charts and win.

I'd love to know the outcome of the Santos vs. Basavich match. Kid Delicious does have that S-L-O-W style of play. He has worked hard and practiced on speeding his act up. I've seen him play excellent under the pressure of the 30-second shot clock. As a fan and lowly railbird, I love watching Danny, slow or fast.

A player's gotta do what he's gotta do to win, and Danny is more comfortable taking his time. Nobody said a word to Jeremy Jones at the '03 Open when he played slow in the finals. Jose Parica, his opponent in the finals, looked as if he was going to fall asleep sitting tableside. If slow play by any player hinders the tournament progress, holds up the tournament chart so the next matches cannot transpire, a time provision should be instituted, i.e., 30-second shot clock.

No updates this morning for those of us on the East Coast. Sure would be GREAT to hear it from somebody who is there about what's going on. How is the attendance at the Bicycle Club? Are the seats filled up? How was the party the night before the event commenced? Were there any exhibitions or stars in attendance? What is the venue site like, the equipment?

Danny's slow play didn't affect Bustamante one bit. Bustamante didn't miss a ball the entire match, and they went hill-hill. They both played flawless, even though the match took about 10 hours.

well, with robles taking a loss, i'm gonna have to jump on the rodney morris bandwagon. i'll still be hoping for robles, but i've got to like rodney still being on the a side.

not to mention basavich.......keep an eye on him.


on a side note, there's more than a handful of players there that might win this tournament if they were to do it again next week.

JAM, the venue is great. 4 table with raised bleachers on all 4 sides. All seats have excellent sight lines. Last night the place was full for the Archer, Reyes match but the earlier flight had quite a few empty seats. I'm sure that one of the reasons is that we have had several inches above our ANNUAL rainfall in the past few weeks with 5-6 inches more due this weekend. There are not as many vendors as in the past but they still have a practice table in the lobby right next to the main room activity. As I left last night there was Parica, Saenz, King Kong aand several others talking and hitting some balls around.The tables are Brunswick with HUGE pockets. This is dissappointing to most of us as with this type of talent we would like to see more challenging conditions. But since this is only the 2nd time in probably 8-10 yrs that So. Calif has had the pro's here we are loving it! Didn't see any stars except when I looked in the mirror. LOL
