Tax purposes, APA prize money has to be reported.

My local gym wanted bank account and credit info for membership.

Public library only requires drivers license.

Occupation is probably just for statistics on their end. Gender because there is a ladies division. Marital status because of the prefix for communications

And up until recently, ladies started at a different Skill Level than the guys.

Then they would need a social security number.

It tells you what kind of company they keep. People with identities and literacy. There are many ways to exclude people from billiard organizations or billiard history.

Historians will find those player logs and assume many things.

Are you fuckin serious? Dude... you need help. You will never be able to give me one legitimate case where someone was excluded from pool, by an organization such as the apa, bca, or valley,.... based on race.

Being excluded because you are stupid is another topic.

You really cant be asking this question, have you never read any of his other posts??? I'm surprised that they don't ask if you're a member of the harriman foundation.

Presumably they want to know for marketing reasons. Most of that info seems like none of their business. They could just ask FaceBook about you. :devilish:
Bob is right. Most of it is for marketing. Not to sell, to use. Are the customers in your area mostly white-collar or blue-collar, for example? It helps put together programs that attract people to your product, or determine demographics that you might not be attracting as well as others. If you have some folks who work at a decent-sized company, it might help you get a foot in the door with the HR department there and get a company-sponsored league started, or a company-sponsored team. It can help you get sponsors too. If a potential sponsor's product appeals to divorcees, for example, maybe it would help to be able to show them that X% of your customers are in that demographic. Some of it is used for networking and building a community, too. At times we've been able to refer one customer to another, point someone to a job lead, etc.

But he's wrong when he says it's none of their business. Any good business person knows you should make an effort to know your customers, so in that respect it is 100% their business, by definition. Except for gender (which does still affect some rules at the top), none of that info is required, but if people want to share it, it can help both the APA and the customer. And APA doesn't sell personal info.

All that said, the occupation stuff is only on the paper form, which was designed well before there ever was an internet, let alone a Google or a Facebook. In my area, we don't even get five of those a year.

I did not express myself clearly. The information may be interesting to the APA for advancing their business purposes. I was using the phrase in the usual sense of "it's damned obnoxious for you to ask me that unnecessary question about my personal stuff."
