Are birthday shout-outs necessary?

I dont write this with the intention of pissing people off. I can see how it would be pretty nice to have your birthday acknowledged in a public forum like this. But is it really necessary. It seems like the birthday shout-outs have been cluttering up the boards recently. Can't people just send a private message? There's two or three on the first page right now. That's just my two cents. If you want to continue them, no big deal. I just think it's slightly obnixious. Not very, but slightly.

I hate to be a party pooper too, but it can a bit obnoxious. Maybe it should be posted on the Non Pool related board?

Call me a party-pooper as well, but I agree that these birthday threads do indeed clutter things a bit. Why doesn't Mike just create a whole new Forum related specifically to birthdays and such.

But while were on the subject...Happy bday Mom! It really is her birthday. :D

Is it neccessary? IMHO no, but neither is common courtesy.

Is the world better off with people who would as opposed to a world where nobody would? IMHO absolutely YES.

C'mon people. Let's be a little practical here. Isn't there close to 4000 AZers out there? If everyone gets equal opportunity, that's a little over 10 individual birthday threads a day. And besides, non of these birthdays are pool related, so if you're dying to post a birthday thread, then NPR section is the way to go. Better yet, just PM the darn person.

Yes, i'm a birthday grinch. I think birthdays are so overrated. :p

Well I got the shaft (pun intended) on my b-day (Nov.13) by whomever sends the e-cards. Having said that, I think they are overrated. I also think they should be in the npr section, which I rarely frequent anyways, well because its not pool related, lol.

How ironic this should could up on my birthday. Let me tell you what a "great" day it has been.

Start with yesterday, I came home from TDY to see my laundry room and bathroom flooded from a water leak in the ceiling. I call a plumber and he promises to be here by 1200 today.

This morning I get up and my wife seems to have forgotten it's my birthday. She goes and does errands without so much as a Happy Birthday. Leaving me to wait for the plumber. The plumber calls and cancels at 1130, so now I have to find someone else to come out. The new plumber shows up and looks at the busted pipe and doesn't have the stuff to fix it so he has to come back later. He still hasn't showed up yet (a/o 1750).

My wife finally makes it home around 1500 and I still have yet to hear the words "Happy Birthday".

Around 1700 I went out to get something out of the truck and notice alot of water. Not one but TWO pipes busted in my well house. So I grab the shop vac and start cleaning that up.

I'm still waiting on the plumber to deplete my savings, maybe he'll show up sometime this evening.

A shout out may have made my day a little brighter, but now I see they're not acceptable.

Enough of my whining. Hope everone's birthday urns out better than mine...

Just so that I can make my case and not sound like a complete hypocrite as someone had pointed out, I am somewhat new to the AZ forum, you can see only 80+ postings so far, I was not even aware their was an "NPR" thread. Need to do some more exploring.

Anyway, it's friday, i'm leavin work. you're leaving work, lets enjoy the weekend and end thread which is clearly going nowhere.

Well, I kind of liked the fact that people were getting a nice little message or 2 for their birthdays and now it looks like I will never have one (September 11). :( More people read the main board, so there was more chance of participation. If I don't know them, I don't respond, but it jogs my memory on the ones that I want to say something to. I don't go to the NPR very often. Just a nice touch that someone cares. May be annoying to some, but I think you can skip right over them and they are obsolete in a day. I think it is nice of Eydie to take the time to remember everyone.

While they are not pool related, I really don't see a problem with them being on the main forum.

Happy Birthday Jim!!!!!
And just remember if you are average you will only get 73 or so in your WHOLE LIFE - maybe less maybe more. A birth day is a day to celebrate a new life so its nice when others notice or remember the anniversary of your birth day. I am fortunate - I have a new grandson this month to add to the other 5 plus one precious granddaughter. I hope to be around a long time to wish them "happy birthday".

Thanks Jack!!! I'm still saving or at least until today, for the cue we designed together. I really want to get it made, it may just take longer than I thought. I also come up on Herceck's list next year so..too many pans in the fire. Hopefully soon...

Thanks again for the well wishes!!

UGH, it sounds like you've got my luck... if it weren't for bad luck, I wouldn't have any at all it seems. Just like my life, when it rains it pours... it just really sucks when it's on the ONE DAY of the yr that should be all about you & you should be having fun! I'm sorry you've had a rough week. Hopefully things will get better soon. Try to enjoy the rest of your b-day! :)
