Barter System: love it hate ot?

I am a huge fan of the barter. In the process of building a shop to make Tim Allen jealous there is a list to the floor of machines I keep an eye out for. Recently I have bartered for a Grizzly dust collector in exchange of services to repair an antique slate
Just curious on the rest of you to see if you have used the system over and above your normal quoting processes.
