hey guys i have heard alot of basavich bashing. how can you bash a guy for
taking a minute to shoot a shot. when they are so much money at stake.
they often times are not just playing with their own money either they have a responsibility to not ony theirselves but their backers. often times during a big week like derby a road player can make as much money as a average joe makes on his job in a year! i have seen the kid play before and let me tell you he doesnt miss much because he takes his time and makes sure he doesnt rush and make a mistake like many others. but much of it is god given talent too.
he has traveled the united states every single state and has cleaned up like a
champion and he has been noted as being the best road player for the last 5 or 6 years. and as many road money players out there thats a big acomplishment brother! and takes alot of heart not to fold under all that pressure. i have seen him play eric durbin one year he came to my way
he gave durbin the 8 and wiped the floor with him. pressure shoots
for big money like 5,000 or so you would think the man was playing for the hell of it no sweat!!the way he beat durbin i thought he was jesus christ in a fat man suit!! as i heard last he was up 5 games on gabe owen well let me tell you owen didnt have a chance then as good as owen is for him to go back around 15 games on the kid aint happening!the kid doesnt loes he only needs a half of a hand to count his losses no matter who hes played. and when owen can say hes the best money player for 5 straight years or more than he can talk
because BEING A ROAD PLAYER AND BEING A TOURNAMENT PLAYER IS 2 DIFFERENT THINGS. PEOPLE USUALLY SAY BAD THINGS ABOUT THE KID BECAUSE CHANCES ARE THEY PROBABLY LOST A WAD TO HIM. PEACE!

I read what you are talking about.

I have never played him. I will never play anyone that wants to take a 15 min break every 30 minutes, and will not play anyone that takes over 1 minute to shoot each shot.

Just my opinion.

hi i respect your opinion! really i do and have thought about it for a minute.

how is it any different than a baseball pitcher scratching his balls for 15 minutes before he throws a pitch but yet millions watch the game. its a
gentlemans sport. or a boxer dancing around for a minute plotting his next move before he strikes! the game of pool started out as a gentlemans game too. and the new generation of the fast and the furious or as in the kids situation the fat and the furious!(aint i a hoot!) but in the end no one was being held a gun to watch this talent shoot and its between those 2 guys with the big *** bets!! who cares what others say.

ALL IS FAIR IN LOVE AND WAR BABY!

I HOPE NO ONE TAKES ME TOO SERIOUSLY IM JUST A ENTERTAING WRITER!!
AND LIKE TO STIR THE POT SOMETIMES!!

let him beat Tony Watson for the money, then we will call him the "best" road/money player around.

As a matter of fact he has yet to beat Gabe.

Danny can beat anyone, that's for damn sure.

When it comes to pure gambling I would put my money on Danny everytime. Not saying he would win every time but that's where my money would be.

I've never seen the guy play but from what I've heard, he does take awhile to shoot. That can get to people, if they let it. But I don't think it's just that he takes so long to shoot, he doesn't miss much either. He, the guy has his own style just like the rest of us. What can you do about it? Don't miss? That might be a good idea. As far as being the best road player the past 4 or 5 years, maybe so. If the guy books nothing but winners, it's hard to argue against it. Just thought I'd throw my .02 in, peace, John.

After re-reading my initial post, it might have come across as negative, this was not meant at all.

Danny is a very fine player that I would bet on as well.

tony watson has not been named by a bunch of billiards magazines calling hime best road money player in the last five years. neither has gabe as much as i like the guys and respect them. but in the end my friend when all was said and done who was up 5 games! not gabe! ok how about this tell tony to play kid next time at derby! hell last time i saw tony watson playing durbin for 40,000 total he was running around the table like a mad man and when he wasnt shooting he was fidgeting like a crack head in need of a fix i saw him hot box a pack of cigs in one game!! and let me tell you with those 2 characters playing the match could be rigged and a set up! probably lots of good people lost their money that night on side bets it was a sham!
and a fix! with the kid its all honesty and pure talent and that upsets alot of people i know. all he knows is he wants to win and be the best!! and if thats a crime to take your time and shoot a shot so be it! and once more if you agree to play those kind of sets for big money the ahead set you in the first place should know you better be prepared for 12 hours or more! and in my book that much time involved you do need breaks and pace yourself for the long haul it makes a champion out of you!

Well, there's a saying that goes "you can't choose who you draw in a tournament, but you sure can choose who you practice with and who you gamble with." Nobody who goes into action with Danny would expect anything other than ridiculously slow play, so it's tough to feel sorry for anyone who does it. If they can't handle it, let them play someone else.

Just for the sake of those preparing for the SATs ---

Danny Basavich is to Luc Salvas as the Tortoise is to:

a) the heir
b) the hair
c) the hare
d) the hayer

Five virtual dollars for the first correct response.

hey ive got a good ideal i tell you! this danny basavich AKA KID DELICIOUS
is the second coming of minnesota fats! maybe a little larger or smaller im not sure who tipped the scales more. my ideal is let danny play in a movie about minnesota fats life! has that one been done yet if not it should be!

Nice guy, johnrp2005. You initiate a thread about bashing Danny "Kid Delicious" Basavich, and then you take a cheap shot at Tony Watson.

Better not quit your day job, Pal!

BTW, I consider Danny a friend of mine, and this thread stinks!

I was really interested in seeing Danny Kid Delicious play at the DCC. I have read so much about him that I wonder how he really played.
I watched Danny & Gabe play for the 11 hours and IMO, had no problem with the pace that Danny plays. He does take his time to shoot but for the money, I would slow down too. And I have definitely seen slower....Reed Pierce quickly comes to mind. Jeremy Jones, Jimmy Wetch, older players such as Dick Lane, Buddy Hall, Billy Encardona, etc. all play just as slow if not slower than Basavich. Strong Arm John is the slowest of ALL TIME. I wouldn't call Kid Delicious slow...more like deliberate. He is an excellent shot maker and like I said earlier, incredibly light on his feet for a big man. He moves around the table fast but when down to shoot takes his time. I was told that when he plays a long time, he looks just as fresh at the end as the beginning & this is also true. That is what makes him a good gambler. BUT...the extensive breaks every 30-40 minutes was a bit much. If I was the caliber player of Danny or Gabe, I would have to match up with either a time clock for breaks or instead of playing ahead sets, I would play Danny races to 11 or 15 with the agreement of no breaks until the set was complete. That would solve everything. Let it also be known that neither of these players tried to play rack games with each other which was pleasant to see. I consider Gabe a friend of mine & I don't hesitate in saying that he played awful that night. He missed two outs where the 6,7, 8, and 9 balls were at the end rail & all he had to do was roll in each ball with the cue ball going back & forth. One time in a circumstance like this, he shot the 6 in the corner across the bottom rail & didn't get a rail. Another time, he had ball in hand on the 1 ball & missed. Those 3 games right there would put Gabe back to even for the night with Delicious. I would say that Gabe out broke Danny (who I also heard had a great break but never saw it). Maybe on a different table the breaking would be more even cause none of the Diamonds at the DCC broke well. The one they played on, the bottom rail seemed a lil dead and the balls hit off it on the break & just died down there. Also 3 times that I can remember Gabe played shaped off this bottom rail & came up short & without shape.

I would like to see them play again, let Gabe clear his head & match up somehow without extensive time outs and let the best man win.

That's not true! I hear Danny B. can play pool..

Fats is more of name recognition than anything else.

for all the basavich fans:
what is his (gambling)record against:
John Schmidt
Corey Deuel
Shannon Daulton
Jose Parica
Alex Pagulayan
James Walden
Antonio Lining
Tony Watson
Jeremy Jones
Dennis Hatch

these are just a few of the players that regularly seek action/gambling

not to mention guys who dont seek it that much ie Archer,Strickland,Morris, etc.

Just because Billiard Digest runs an article on a player, it does not mean everything in the article is FACT.

BD has also run an article on what a great guy Dennis Hatch is. I wouldnt bet much on finding many who agree with that, nevertheless it was still in the magazine.

Anyhow I'd like to hear from all the KID fans on how great his record is against the players mentioned above. PLEASE convice me that he is the BEST road/money player over the last 4-5 years. I'm listening.

Kid is good but I dont see how he can be called THE BEST when I can name 10-15 players better, almost all of whom would love to play a little nine or ten ball with Danny Basavich and also bet as much as he would like.

winners vs loosers

i ve seen danny play on a few different occasions and whether you like his style of play or you hate it he has certainly booked a whole lot more winners than loosers and i think thats the true stat fo any road player or tournament player.

For the record

the only time I ever heard of Tony Watson and Danny Basavich matching up was at the 2000 US Open. 10-ahead for $10,000 EVEN

Tony won, and I dont think it took that long either.

The next night Tony beat Alex Pagulayan, 8-ahead for $10,000
Tony was getting the seven and the last two. Alex, in all his greatness, has not been too eager to offer the same game.

Corey Deuel
Shannon Daulton
Jose Parica
Alex Pagulayan
James Walden
Antonio Lining
Tony Watson 0-1
Jeremy Jones
Dennis Hatch

so far Kid is 0-1

would love to hear a couple of true stories or atleast an argument;)
