Who is/was the best at breaking in 9 ball? It HAS to be someone that parks the cue the most as well as makes a ball.

IMO it's Mike Sigel. His cue ball is amazing. He hits them so square.

Corey Deuel. The way he can exploit racks with different cue ball positions and speed is second to none.

George Breedlove hit them the hardest I ever saw or heard, before he started dislocating his shoulder. David Howard, Danny Medina and Wade Crane also crushed them. I left out Bustamante. He was right up there too.

Earl had the most effective break ever. He could examine that rack and know just how to hit it to make balls. And he did!

Best break today has to be Shane and Jeff De Luna hits them the hardest.

Archer and Bustamante imo. Johnny had the best controlled power break, and Busty's break would just make people duck how hard he hit em.

Corey is the best manager of the break. I mean, they changed rules because of the kid lol.

Today I think the hardest break has to be Jeffrey De Luna's... wow... I mean he smashes the balls. When it does stick and squat, It's impressive.

Earl used to get incredible action on his break when it was working... it was his secret to the good old nine pack for the come from behind win.

Shane's ten ball break... enough said.

9 or 10 ball-Ralf. Not the hardest but the best.

I swear on a stack of bibles that at the DCC this year, i watched Ralf during most of 4 matches, he made a ball on the break every time. To make it more believable i should have said every time but one but i cant because it was every single time!

While we are discussing

breaking, do you think the non-english (stun break) is better than an english break (most preferable is 3/4 tip below middle, 3/4 tip left)?

I have studied and debated, with myself mostly, for years.

The late Tony Ellin.

The perfect combination of power and control.

He would regularly make 2-3 balls every break.

It didn't matter where his cue ball ended up, he wouldn't miss anything.

I think Tony broke them as good as anyone one.

its really hard to say who is the best at 9B breaking, in 10B Shane is ahead of the world, it 9B its harder to to judge.

I havea friend Mike Mitchell who is a amature who has a pro gear, we have all wondered why he didnt turn pro, he breaks the balls harder than anyone listed in this thread, Kim Davenport will vouch for me on that. And yes he controlled the rock. He still plays great, and he named me Fatboy, thats the triva of the day.

IMO if Corey had been less concerned with coming up with gimmick slow breaks and had continued to use his old powerful break he had when he was young he would atm be the most dominant player in the USA and possibly the world. If one looks at the last few world 9-ball champions they all got there without slow gimmick breaks and instead used hard controlled breaks. Corey used to have one of the best of those types of breaks and his shooting ability after the break is still world class. If anything his break is hos Achilles heel now, and he chose to make it such. If he ever decides to quit with the gimmicks and go back to hard controlled breaks the world ain't gonna like it.

Hard controlled break producing great results atm, SVB, who IMO is no better a shot then Corey but he simply breaks better due to not being gimmicky and simply using a hard controlled consistent break.

It's really not even close, corey deuel. Rules were changed and implemented because of him.

Best break

I like Corey Deuel for the best.Second is tie between Ralf and SVB.Larry Nevel and Busta have the most powerful breaks I have ever seen.Control is biggest factor that is why Corey wins this hands down.

My votes go to SVB, Jeff De Luna and Wu Chia Ching

Hmm... maybe if I go by my full, 3 part name, my break will improve by association? :rotflmao1:

I guess I'm asking who parks the ball closest to center table the best? I know of the guys who crush the balls.
Every time I go through my pool dvds I'm always blown away by how Sigel does that. More so than anyone else. Does anyone else see that?

Fatboy, I saw Mike Mitchell at the Swanee and you are absolutely right. His break is nasty!!! He is a scary player for ANYONE to play.

After watching SVB in person, I would lean towards him as the best 9 ball break. I think he broke dry less than 10 times in 149 breaks. He pocketed a wing ball(the 8) just about everytime and usually pocketed one more. And unless it was kicked, the cue ball very rarely moved from the center.

Corey use to be the best 9 ball breaker, in that having control of the one ball after the break.
