Bk3

Anyone using the new BK3? How does it compare to a BK2 or other break cue. I don't know of anyone who has one so interested in hearing about it. thanks

I'd like to know too. My Bud in Edmonton is thinking about a BK3 and asked me to check the difference between the 2 also.

The only thing I could find was that it said there were 12 different new modifications between the 2.

The only thing mentioned was the carbon fiber insert in the shaft for a start.

Both had a 4 ply laminated butt. Maybe a few cosmetic differences.

But as far as performance mods, I haven't been able to find any info.

KJ Simpson is the guy I always turn to if I have a Predator question. If'n he don't know, then probably no one will.

His AZ handle is KJCues if you do a search.

If someone responds can you also add what tip you have on it? I read it comes with a phenolic tip. thanks

When I talked to Mike Dechaine he did say the BK3 is much better in his opinion than the BK2 but you can never be sure if that is because Predator pays him to say it lol.

I havent broken with the stick itself but I have seen Mike's version and it looks to have carbon fiber to make it stronger. Other than that I can't say much on it. It does look mighty fine though...

I own both a BK2 and BK3 and have been using the BK3 for the last 3 weeks. IMO, the BK3 does not have as much ridgidness as the 2 so I am assuming the carbon fiber does well with absorbing the hit. I have tried it with no weight bolt in it and also loading it up with weight (which is not much b/c you cannot fit two of the 2.0 ounce weights in it, no room for the bumper to screw back on). I found that it hit the best for me with the weight adjusted to around 19 ounces. It does blast the rack open nicely at any rate. I have the pleasure of owning a Mezz Power Break Pro also and I feel the Mezz is a little bit better. Unfortunately, for the $200+ more that the Mezz costs, the BK3 is a better deal. Overall, I won't be selling the BK2 anytime soon b/c the 3 has not shown me enough to render it irrelevant. If Predator is listening, I will gladly change this feedback if they want to sponsor a mediocre player and hook him up with a couple cues!!

My friend recently got the bk3 and sold his bk2 with linen wrap. I have a bk2 sport grip. The bk3 feels a little different but I can't say that it is better or worse than either of the bk2 cues. I can say that for myself, I wouldn't spend the extra money on the bk3. As for tips, they are the original ones.

The BK3 improved my break. It added 3mph to my top speed. I know that I am sponsored by Predator but I played with their equipment long before they gave me anything. I spent hours at the predator shop testing out both, and this one did it for me.

Mike, I wish you well in turning stone. Hope you snap it off.

Mike,

3mph to your top speed took you to 36 from what I was told... I am going to make some assumptions here and the first of which is that you were using the BK2 when you were hitting em at 33.....

The math is more complex than the general calculations and I am going to use and the COR measurements are from my own BK2 which may be a little higher or lower than yours but should be close.... Assuming that you are using the stock BK2 ferrule/tip combo which was engineered to create more COR.....

IF you were breaking at 33mph with the BK2 which has a COR of 89% then x times .89 = 33.. So your cue speed was 37.08mph

IF you use the same cue motion and generate a 37.08mph cuespeed with the BK3 that resulted in a 36mph break the COR of the BK3 would have been a whopping .971.... 37.08 times y = 36

I do not think the cue tip/shaft technology alone could have accounted for the change... is the BK3 lighter than your BK2???? Is the grip area a smaller diameter on the BK3 than the BK2??

I am intent on testing the COR of the BK3 at DCC... Would be interesting to see what your BK3 tests at VS what Michael has in inventory.....

Think we would like to schedule an interview segment with you on the break as well and I'll talk to you about that in person when we there...

This would be awesome Chris.

I've been thinking about picking up a PowerBreak Pro with an H shaft, still waiting for more feedback on the BK3. Would love to see some actual science.

Also looking at Lomax/Samsara/..

Also, a little for those regarding COR from Wiki..

The coefficient of restitution entered the common vocabulary, among golfers at least, when golf club manufacturers began making thin-faced drivers with a so-called "trampoline effect" that creates drives of a greater distance as a result of the flexing and subsequent release of stored energy, imparting greater impulse to the ball.
