Undertaker,

Quit your job right now cuz that baby's worth about 35 million dollars. Post it up on ebay right away, while the market's hot!

-Roger (j/k, very nice cue, I have no idea it's value right now. I would guess 4-6k? I'm sure more knowledgable people will chime in)

Nice cue! I'd guess $5-7k, maybe more. Tony Scianella, who makes Black Boars in College Park MD, makes around 20 cues a year. He is not taking any new orders as he is backlogged for several years. Most of the new cues he makes are very high end, but usually less than $57,000!

i believe someone from overseas actually bought him out for a few years....i could be wrong though.

Black Boar Cues

An American, I only know that he is called Lucky, has bought whatever Tony makes for a few years. He sells mostly in Japan. In Japan, the prices are inflated. Maybe 50% or more. My friend had five of them and they all went to Lucky. He just showed me an all Ivory cue he paid $18,000 for. Must be making out OK.

Thanks Murray, am I correct in the rest of the post?

Probably so. I know he is buying everthing that Barenbrugge makes and I have heard that he has bought out Joe Gold but I don't know that for sure. Maybe some of the dealer types can chime in.

Only 20 Black Boars every year ? They seem to come rare these days...

Confused?

I'm confused. Did "Lucky" just buy out his stock or his company? Who's sponsoring Sueyen Rhee, Scianella Black Boar or Lucky the Wealthy Japanese Irishman?

Murray how'd you get that first name?

from what i've heard from a reliable source ( another cuemaker) tony basically sold the "rights" to 3 years worth of cues. i believe that his contract is for 16 cues a year for 3 years. he's not supposed to take any orders or make any cues for anyone other than the buyer (lucky, as his name seems to be)

thanks

Just another Black Boar Fan

Hello Undertaker;
I looked at your Black Boar. Very nice, but then I'm a bit bias when it comes to Black Boar and Tony's work. (Although Tony is not speaking to me these days).
I have a BB as my daily shooter and also sold a my one off-collector BB about this time last year - pic are in my post to this forum subject: My Black Boar Que.

I think yours Que ranks close to the 15K displayed on Ques and Things website.

Lucky also buys almost all of the cues produced by Mike Lambros.

I don't know how true it is but, i heard at the SBE that Tim Sruggs is also
selling to someone in japan. it's to bad that the greatest cuemakers have
to resort to this.
I also play with a BB, and own a rare light maple Cog and wanted to add a
Sruggs before he stops making them as i heard that he might stop in a few
years turning over the biz to his apprentice.

What is too bad is the fact that these GREAT cuemakers don't get any support from buyers, I believe you can call Tim up right now and order all the cues you want, as well as buy 12 at the show in VF. The fact that you want to spread rumors that would make people think they can't get a cue from Tim is too bad. Also keep in mind he has to pay his bills, he should be allowed to sell to whoever buys them, no matter what country the person is from. Sad fact is most people don't want to support the cuemaker, they want to rob the cue, either from E-bay and get a new comer who has a real job and does cues as a hobby and who doesn't know 1/16th of what Tim does about cues. People don't want great cues they want cheap cues and then they can come here trying to convince us about how great their new cue is, instead of buying one we already know is great. I'm all for supporting new cuemakers, but let's not talk bad about a legend who is trying to make a living.

Tim always seems most willing to make cues when I've talked to him.

I always like to try various cues, and look for ones from makers that hit well. If I can get it for less then I will. I do buy most of my cues new, though I have had a few that were used. Cue makers are going to sell where the market is, for some that isn't with me. I don't have a $1000 plus to spend on cues from well established legend cue makers. Wish I did, because I would.

lucky doesnt buy lambros, all you have to do is look at his web site the bigger the name on the top page the bigger the deal.

What's too bad: that these select cuemakers get to sell their cues to Japan/Taiwan for 2x's what they can get for them here?
