He is a boat captain and part time cue maker who works with the simplest of equipment, yet he produces work equal to anyone building cues no matter what their reputation or how sophisticated their shop. He epitomizes what someone can do when they have an interest and put forth 100%. He should be an inspiration to any new cue maker who thinks if they don't have a $50,000 shop they can't build quality cues as some on here like to give the impression. All the cues he has built for his friends for $300. and $400. have turned out to be pretty good investments. The first cues he built were very good and they only got better. The work is only as good as the man doing it and he quite honestly may be one of the best.

Bob bought one of the first few inlay machines I ever built and one of my lower end lathes. Within a couple months he had already built some $1000 cues. He then added a Deluxe Cuesmith and a milling machine, a small metal lathe and so on. He has been double milling points on that mill since he got it. He is a super nice guy and does real clean work. He is an example of how buying ready to use equipment like cue lathes helps the learning curve be very short. Most people are still trying to get their metal lathe set up for cue building at the time he had already built $1000 cues. Can't say enough good things about him or his work. Does anyone have an email address for him? PM it to me.

I know you sneaked in a little bit of a plug there but the truth is, it is easier if you can start with a lot of the work already done for you and as you learn more and get more equipment you will still always find a lot of use for the first equipment you started with. I think some may think they don't want to spend the money because they will be up grading at some point. But even then, they will not be discarding anything just putting it to another use, maybe a dedicated use. The ready made equipment provides a great learning platform and you can get started doing work almost right away with a lot of back up support. I once went through the trash at Joss cue years ago just looking for some shipping labels from suppliers. Honest to God, at one time that is how secretive most of these guys were. There were no boards like this.

I know that he has a place a few miles from where I live and have been told that he a a good guy.I have also heard that he can be difficult with a strong personality. His cues do look good but I have not played with one.

I thought that being difficult with a strong personality was a given for all of us cue makers?? All the dust and fumes!

Manzino cues

I knew Bob very well in the early and late nineties, Bob was and perhaps still is a private boat captain who makes cues during the off season. Bob was genuinely about the nicest guy that hung around with us at the Q-Stick poolroom in Lighthouse point,Fl.

When Bob started out making sticks in his little shop he was looking for customers, and a good many of the local players had Bob make them a cue. I still have the cue Bob made for me and have played with nothing else since 1995. Bob charged me the outrageous price of I believe $400.00. I spent many hours sitting in Bob"s little shop talking and watching him work, even then, at the very beginning, Bobs attention to detail and dedication were obvious and amazing. Bob invited me to participate in the design decisions on my own cue, which I gladly did and which makes that cue all the more valuable to me even today.

I was recently going thru the big Cuestick Book and came across Manzino Cues and was at first surprised to see what Bob is getting for his cues today, and what accalades he is currently recieving, but then I thought "well, of course" he always was confident in his skills and dedicated so of course he is the best.

I haven"t seen nor talked with Bob in more than fifteen years as I have sinced moved to Maryland, but I sure do hope I do run into him someday to show him my little $400.00 Manzino cue and get to thank him for making me so happy and proud every time I pull it out of its case. I tell everyone who asks me about my cue to go look up Bob Manzino in the big cue book.

Thanks Bob.
