"Budget" Break Cue?

Alright, we have heard of the Predator Break King and the Sledgehammer Cues and probably many others.
Well, I'm not made of money :) and I was wondering, what could be used as a reasonable cheap but decent/good break cue? I would think a cue with a hard tip would be great (of course I don't know of the other characterstics) so basically, I'm just wondering can *almost* any playing cue be made into a break cue if you just add a hard tip to it?

In addition, I have a Fiberglass Halex Titanium Cue (it was my first one when starting out) and would it be possible to change that tip to a hard tip and be used as a breaking cue only or would that destroy the cue? I thought only the tip would be effected and not the cue but...

Just my suggestion:
Playing cue: McDermott, Viking or Lucasi.... under $250 (still a great cue)
Break cue: Dufferin Phanton (Sneaky Pete)... $80
Jump cue: Bunjee...........................................$80
Case: Action 2x4............................................$40

TOTAL SPENT: $450 and you have all you need (more actually) to start out with. Then spend a little for a couple hours of Beginner Lessons. Then PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE!!

For a small amount of cash,The Tornado jump break cue isnt a bad deal.You get a a break cue and jump cue for one low price.They have one of those phenolic tips on them. But like Zim says, practice , practice, practice.
I hope my fiancee doesnt see this, I may have just talked my self out of that new high dollar cue.lol
 
Not sure if its available in the US, but those inexpensive Korean Carom cues (12 mm ferrule) are great for the money !!!..the taper is not PRO-TAPER...and the shaft is very very very stiff...this is what I currently use....

it has a LARGE wooden screw which is located at the shaft which screws to the Butt
