Hello fellows,

Is there any good cuemaker and/or cueshop in Chicago? I am travelling to Chicago in September and I would like to buy a custom cue over there. I heard of Travis of Blackcreek but that's too far down the road.

Sorry to bother you but I tried the search function and could not find anything.

Best regards from sunny Germany:p

Ed Young has the services of the legendary cue maker, David Kirsenbach making custom cues for him. His shop is right by my house and he is a personal friend. The down side is that Ed is very difficult to get hold of, as he has many other business interests, and is in no hurry to sell anyone a cue. If you can get him to have David make one for you, you will have made a score. I suggest when you are in Chicago to get hold of me and I will take you to Ed's shop and speak up for you. If you are that interested you should have no problem figuring out how to contact me.

Off the top of my head, and in no particular order:

Joel Hercek
Cogniscenti (Joe Gold)
Bobby Hunter
Ed Young
David Kersenbrock
Schuler Cues
Adrian Viguera

I'm sure there are more I can't remember.

Add John Davis to the list, but remove Schuler Cue. They closed shop several months ago, and Schuler Cues are now made by Jacoby.

Add Tim Prince to the list. He posts occasionally as princecues. I've seen his work and was very impressed. A very nice guy also.

I think Joe Gold, Ed Young, and Herceck, entail long waitlists and big $$$ (upper tiers for sure)

While not close to chicago, Travis (blackcreek) cues are awesome. They play great (at least to me). Another choice is Jon Spitz. Couldnt be nicer, cues play great, and price is very very reasonable.

You want a great playing cue, go find Bobby Hunter! Freddie knows how to get ahold of him.

Bobby has been staying with me for the last year. Unfortunately, his equipment is in storage and he hasnt set up his shop yet. The release of the equipment is in litigation. He does make a fabulous cue.

The rumor is that Bobby is scheduled to pick up his equipment next Thursday.

Konck on wood all goes well.

Hello everybody and thank you all very much for your help, especially to Freddy the Beard. (PM on the way)

I will contact some of the recommended cue makers.

Please don't feel offended, if I don't contact the silent cue makers (at least Herman Rambow won't answer the phone, I am afraid).

I contacted Travis, his cues are superb. But this country is really large and the speed limits are really low. As I have jut one day off in Chicago, he is out of my travel range. For you it's maybe just down the road from Chicago, for me it's a day of driving, and it's the only day.

If anybody else has a recommendation - It's all welcome.

Best regards

Gerhard
