Im sure there is a thread around here for this but i havent seen anything..

Which top players use the speed of the hit and center axis??... i have been using outside(mainly) for many years(solid B player), but in order to move up i think i need to master the center axis better.. who are the players i want to watch to help with this?

This is my first post on this site, but i have been reading it for years..

Thanks...

Buddy hall appeared to be shooting center ball when aligning shots.

That is how he always addressed the ball when I was watching his play.

Go to YouTube and watch the videos and make note of how the balls react and you will see which pros use mostly center ball or near to it. I think that the answer would be most of them.

I'd be willing to bet on an over and under of 2%.

My guess is 0%.....and I'd be willing to bet on an over and under of 2%. btw - I'm taking the under. ;)

I would not use english (side), unless it was absolutely necessary.
Why make the pot more difficult?

In most cases i would suggest one could use the pocket to obtain
A greater angle for position.

Most pros tend to use less english, but more often. Most of the really good players I know RARELY use zero english. Using a little english helps you avoid skids and lets your subconcious have more say in the movment of the cue ball and the cut angle. This is a GOOD thing for experienced players.

Weaker players are often given the advice "You should work on using mostly centerball" because centerball is a good starting point from which to learn the movement of the cue ball. From that starting point, you can easily account for the effects of english when it comes time to learn it. Weaker players that use english too much are more difficult to teach position to because they don't have the knowledge of the reference point of center ball to fall back on for more advance position routes.

Once you learn centerball and how the cueball reacts with it, you should strive to "graduate" to using english quite often, but more controlled than before.

I will give anyone in the world the 7 ball playing 9 ball

Pros using "center ball" is like seeing "Big Foot".
I will give anyone in the world the 7 ball playing 9 ball and they have to use center ball on ever shot and I get to use ONLY INSIDE on ever shot. I'll play anyone on earth this game with BIGTRUCK streaming it in DALLAS TEXAS for $1000. any time, any day. This is a standing offer and I only need three days to practice.....this offer is good for anyone from planet earth.

CJ - I don't think the question was using CCB on every shot - that would be silly :)

Since I started working with Pro One I play a lot more CCB and it has resulted in higher shot making % as well as a better stroke and positional play. Tangent lines etc are very easy to determine.

I am not a Pro but this has been my experience.

Cheers,
Gerry

Ralf Souquet hit center of cb unless he is very close to the ob and must use side

This is a fair wager, and I might even travel to play someone

I never hit the cue ball in the center and can't imagine doing it, even though I've heard people talk about it. My offer stands, I will give anyone the 7 that uses center/low, center/center, center/high and I'll only use the inside of the ball.

Surely we can find someone that will play this game for a thousand on streaming or we can do it in private, it's up to them. I want to prove this once and for all, that no pro can play without favoring one side of the cue ball or the other. This is a fair wager, and I might even travel to play someone if they can't come to Dallas.

The professionals know how to maintain and harden a tip in such a way that spin and control are greatly enhanced. When the tip and stroke are perfect, only slight deviations from center ball produce great spin. The great players that I've watched always seem to strike the cue ball close to center and get great action at the same time.

When beginning players see an impressive shot by a good player the beginner will ofter ask someone "where did he hit that" as if english was the only variable. A better question would be "how did he hit that".

I like to watch great players while paying very close attention to the tip's path through the cue ball. Some great players like Immonen seem to hit straight through the ball. Some great players dab the ball with a descending strike. When Archer was playing his best he usually hit the ball with a rising tip and he would use that stroke even when drawing the ball.

CJ i'd rather the challenge be 20 shots picked by both players (pro player from Europ) with cb 6 inches from a rail and 5 diamonds between ob and cb with slow medium and hard with no practice allowed with target position. if you win i will buy your dvd

For the record im no pro. Lol but in my opinion i think side spin is used to change the rebound angle off the rails for position. And i noticed pros like to use rails. So pros stay on the vertical axis for shots not involving rails. I also bet they stay alot closer to center than people think. Reason why they are pros and they stay in line adjustment are smaller. Now the reason i comment. You have to be able to adjust your speed and spin based on the angle of the shot and the rail pattern needed for position. I think the question needs a specific shot. The generalization of what the pros do most the time bothers me. Everyone of them are so different. Players need to be flexible with the cueball and know their limits. This is art not science.

The "pinned" shot has a different sound to it, it's more high pitched

This is from something we call "pinning" the shots. We hit it with the center of the TOP of our tip. The cue must be angled down slightly so the top of the tip hits a half tip or tip below center, however I favor the inside of center to control the deflection. The "pinned" shot has a different sound to it, it's more high pitched and the cue ball reacts with much more response.

Buddy Hall did it extremely well, he would just touch the cue ball and it would draw back several feet. This is from precision, not power, and it's not done with center ball.

no thanks...you know that will never happen
