If you get Hustlers, Beats and Others, get the new edition in paperback. It has an updated and expanded section about what happened to pool in the 30 years between the two editions. (1998, Globe/Pequot Press or Lyons Press) There are copies available on the used book sites for less than $20. There were five or six printings, and there seems to have been a release in 2006 from Aldine/Transactions.Pushout said:Just an aside, Hustlers, Beats, and Others can be a bit expensive from certain rare book dealers. Because of the section on the beat authors, even the earlier paper backs can be pricey. I've seen original first edition hard covers listed at over $100, and that was several years ago. I have a paper back copy, so I haven't priced it lately.

Ned Polsky was an avid fan of pool and billiards.
