Hi cue experts. I have an ebony cue, with an ivory joint collar, and a piloted joint. When I originally bought the cue, the rings on the shaft aligned perfectly with the rings on the butt. Now, a couple months later, the alignment is off by a couple millimeters. I really don't care about this aesthetically, but I am concerned about the joint.
When I tighten the shaft onto the butt, I'm not sure how hard to tighten. It isn't as though I have a torque wrench handy for the task!
Do I run the risk of over-tightening? I try to go just tight enough to make sure the joint doesn't come loose when I play. When I first got the cue, I didn't tighten it enough and I'd find the joint would get just a little loose after playing for a while. Now I go a little tighter, but I'm always worried about that joint collar.
Will the ivory collar and the shaft joint surface just compress a little in the first few months? Will it keep compressing? Or, is it possible that the pin is pulling out a little?
I was hoping to get some advice here, before asking my cue maker.
thx for the advice,
jeremy
