Darren Appleton - Rodney Morris, race to 100 for $ 20,000 a man, on TAR

Less than two when I was tested, but that was many year ago, now I can barely get through ten words without hitting the backspace key several times:cool::cool:

The typing tests nowadays only allow three errors, or else the test doesn't count.

There's some other oddities that you have to get used to before you take the five-minute test. Like they only do one space after a punctation mark, instead of two. If you make a mistake and do two, that counts as one error. Again, you're only allowed three.

Each year, there is a world typing championship that has competitors from around the world. The Russians always come out number one. :p

The Russians are to typing like the Filipinos are to pool. :grin-square:

To keep it on topic of the thread, windows are open for 10 dimes, me against Hatch or Daz for typing. All monies must be posted ahead of time in escrow with Shooting Arts!

I have tested at over 150wpm on a qwerty keyboard (5 minute test). But it's one of those "So what?" kind of skills. Ultimately, even if someone were the fastest typist in the world, there is very limited benefit to having the skill (increased productivity).

By the way, really tough to call this one. It's hard to argue with Darren's recent success. I'm a huge Morris fan. But if I'm betting my cash, I'll go with Darren this time.

I just peck at the keyboard and have no idea what qwerty means.

Your right about the match up.

It looks like Dennis perhaps won't be able to play Darren in Vegas this time, but then Rodney Morris is ready to step up and play Darren for the same amount, same race, same dates.

So there will be a 10-ball match in Vegas.

If Dennis will play Darren, then Darren vs Rodney will happen sometimes later this year. (Darren said so in another thread)

So, what's the line on Rodney Morris vs Darren Appleton?

Rodney Morris, US Open Champion. Runner-up in the IPT World Open.

Darren Appleton, World Ten Ball Champion.

By the way the location in Las Vegas for the match is at

Pool Sharks
3650 S. Decatur
Las Vegas, Nevada
Ph: 702-222-1011

The room is open 24 hours and the match will take place in the "pit" which has a pro cut Diamond 9' table and great spec. seating around it.

Great room, too.

There used to be a house girl that worked there, with tattoos. Cute girl that shot sporty. She still there?

How many errors?

Increased producitivity is the name of the game in my industry! At $6 per audio minute, as one example, it definitely pays the bills. I can type one audio hour in two, maybe three hours tops, depending on the subject matter and speed of the colloquy -- 99.9-percent error free!

No errors. If I remember correctly errors were a massive penalty so it's better to slow down slightly and type accurately, than to bust a vein and make mistakes. In any case my accuracy is very good. I started typing when I was 4, on a nightmare-ish keyboard (think flat microwave panel) lol.

Hmm, perhaps I should look for some of that work on the side. Easy money :grin-square:

PS: Can't wait to see this match up!

My opinion

I watched Dennis play Hennessee this past weekend in VF.

10 ball, race to 15 by 2. Hennessee won 18-16.

I would take Darren against Dennis.
I would take Rodney against Darren.

Dennis is a real good player, but I don't think he can beat Darren.

I was also kind of shocked to see Dennis using an old school Meucci Lock and Key cue. I didn't think any pros used Meucci's anymore.

Obviously I like Darren, because he keeps putting money in my pocket, but I do believe that Rodney is better than Dennis, so it's a tough call to make...

People said Dennis Hatch was/is favourite over Darren, and then they should feel the same about Rodney too, imo

roy ill bet you the 200 on rodney if he plays.
if dennis plays than the same bet.
is this ok with you?
ill take more bets on rodney if anyone wants darren let me know.

Wow that is impressive, but I did sleep with my typing teacher in High School, that should count for something...SCHWING...MS. Washington:p:p:p

Did every lesson only contain words composed of four letters?
You are a lucky man! I'm just trying to find a nice girl who won't file charges!
:p;)

I am pretty sure you are under some rocks every now and then too... There's just too many good players out there, and without proper pro ranking/leagues it's difficult to know who is playing what level.

I am not ashamed to admit that it's impossible to know everyone under circumstances like that.

Ever heard of Klaus Zobrekis? Chris Melling? Carlo Biado? Mick Hill? Stephan Cohen? Bruno Muratore? Christian Reimering? All of these are very good players, and there is especially one of them in that mix that I would put a lot of my money on betting against Hatch. You tell me who you think it is. (Don't use the search-function, that's cheating)

Had you heard of Darren Appleton 3 years ago? Or Karl Boyes? I had.

How about the Filipino Roberto Gomez? Had you heard of him before he finished runner-up in the World Championship? I actually wrote about him on this forum, in February that year, saying he will be the next World Champion. I was almost correct.

Did you wake up under the wrong side of the rock this morning?

Hard-copy typing is pretty easy, but it doesn't pay as much as typing 150-plus WPM from audio. When words come up like Schwarzkopf, Schwarzenegger, Shianouk, Phnom Penh, Jaysh Al Mahdi, et cetera, one must stop and Google the word to try to locate the correct spelling. That 150 WPM speed is going to slow down to about 20 WPM when you have to spell the words correctly, recognize them and know how to search for the correct spelling. ;)

What separates the lions from the lambs is typing 150-plus WPM from straight audio, spelling each word correctly and applying the correct punctuation. And then there's the accented speech and hard-to-hear audio. Not many people can hack it. Hard-copy typing is a piece of cake.

Start out hands behind your back - first one to type the letter J wins. I like short races. Window is open.

By the way, I was #1 in my 8th grade typing class. :p

JAM - I hope you would answer a curiosity question I have - Why on the QWERTY test are there only 1 space behind a punctuation mark? What is the thought process or reasoning behind this?

Sorry, you failed. It was a capital "J," not a "j."

Better luck next time! :grin-square:

ETA: Gotta give you an A-plus for speed, however, since you edited the post to a capital "J" before I could respond. LOL!

Thanks, good game.

This thread really got mature, didn't it :p?

Believe it or not, they ain't fast enough, those programs. Plus, there will be many "untranslates" due to the program not recognizing certain words.

The real voice writers a/k/a stenomask reporters use a voice recognition software that costs close to $10,000, when it's all said and done. A friend of mine purchased one, and he can use it in court and Senate/House venues only. He still has to go through it an do a "scope" job for all the words that the voice recogniton software did not recognize. For me personally, this would take longer than me just banging it out. ;)

Those systems are okay once you create your dictionary of words and it recognizes your voice and macros. Good for letter writing maybe. You have to tweak them. The cheapest and most popular one out today is Dragon, but you get what you pay for. It is a good option for those who can't type very fast.

All this talking about typing, I took a 5-minute practice test last night, while waiting for American Idol to begin on TV, and I did 162 with four errors -- NO GOOD. I've got a new keyboard, and I'm still trying to get used to it. :p

I am thinking about going to Vegas, might set it up for this time.
Thanks
