Darren Appleton - Rodney Morris, race to 100 for $ 20,000 a man, on TAR

Europeans use 1 space after punctuation unlike the US where 2 spaces are used. So my guess is that these guidelines were developed by a European.

I'll accept that as an answer. Thank you Mr. Beetle.

Roy - when the Europeans enter the 21st century, please let us know.

And so do some colleges and universities now. My daughter asked me to re-type a paper for her. It was only one and a half pages long, and I did so. I noticed she only had one space after the period. I changed it to two spaces, and she had a fit. I had to then do a global and make sure there was only one space. This is the way they do it in her college classes at George Mason University, as well as NOVA. I was shocked.

Also, another little oddity which irritates me to no end is the English usage of quotation marks placed before the punctuation mark. Most Americans have been trained the opposite, to place the quotation mark BEFORE the period, comma, and question mark, with the exception of a question within a question and semi-colons.

And then there's the en/em dash. In my industry, most people put a space before and after the en/em dash. However, Hill work and some other entities do not place a space before and after the en/em dash.

It's kind of comical in Wikipedia with punctuation. There's an ongoing battle between American style and English style with the quotation marks.

There are so many formats and style guides out there. I believe that there is truly no right and wrong. However, the key is to be consistent throughout a document. Me personally, I follow the GPO Style Manual for Federal Government. :grin-square:

Lesson over!

Jimmy,

Since she is the one that started talking about speed testing and exercises I would have thought it was directed at her. Misdirected actually since I was the one that playfully tried to rope someone into racing her in a speed contest when all of woofing about bets was going on. The thread has wandered back and forth between typing and betting since then. You'll find very few threads this long that have stayed on topic all the way through.

This thread has at least been pleasant entertainment. I hope it will stay that way.

Watchez,

I'd happily answer your question but I don't have a clue about typing guidelines.

Hu

Actually the original thread was pool related, not about typing. Who the hell cares about typing anyway??? I guess more people like it than care about Rodney Morris v Appleton, but with the people on here it doesnt really surprise me much anymore. I have been begging to go broke on here for months now, and each time I put up a thread, it gets diverted the same way. I think I am going to be the asshole that comes onto other peoples threads and ruins them. Ill probably get banned in a week, but I guess it would be better than going bust. I would rather go bust. Ill stake Bartram playing any body on earth if we can get close to a 50/50 game. Watchez is your boy Begman ready yet? Vette dont you have someone else you can put in to steal our money? Ill stake John Schmidt playing Alex some straight pool again. Appleton you can play Corey some on a bar box. Somebody please do something besides talk about typing.

If you can approach 200 WPM, then you can get a job making 250+ per year as a typist for live television......

I don't give a monkeys how fast anyone working on tv can type, I just wish that the so called journalists and media experts who write/type screen captions and prompt cards for tv news and current affairs programmes could (a) spell and (b) speak English instead of the pidgin formatted nonsense they very often churn out, apparently in the condescending expectation that all viewers are pygmies newly relocated from deep in the Amazon rain forest with no idea what might actually constitute a sentence in English.

Here endeth today's rant

I think Daz will beat Dennis or Rodney but don't see either match as a particularly attractive betting proposition as they could be close and I'm a tight fisted Scottish money grabber :)

Edited American style for Memikey! :p

Appleton vs Deuel on a barbox would be great action. 8-ball I assume?

a domain that might be for sale?

All I see is a domain that might be for sale at the other end of your links that you thought were a must see for me. I'm not in the market for one.

If you try reading my post again you will see that I acknowledge that I am the one that derailed the thread with an offer to back JAM. You are a money man and the thread was about betting from the first post. Will you bet anything on Daz or Rodney? I'll take JAM on a qwerty keyboard over either of them in an even race which is what I said that got all of this started.

The window is open if you are interested.

9 ball, rack your own.

Personally, I don't think Darren wants a piece of that action, but I do believe it would be a hell of a match to watch.

What would Bartram want if he had to battle it out with Shane? What game and what hcp would he prefer?

Watchez: When will Bergman play Bartram? Will it be 10-ball, even? First weekend of January, is it? :D

Yeah, what's up with the links? I can't find it now.

I guess it is some kind of virus? I clicked on them once...

Have seen them in different people's reply, and just ignored them and read the parts of their post that makes sence, since I believe they are not to blame for it.

That link posts on every post I do automatically. I have no idea how to get it off. Any help would be appreciated, because its not mine. I have to go back and edit almost every time I do post.

And they can bet it as high as the Georgia Pine. No spots, no handicaps, just pure speed at its finest! Daz, Rodney, Hatch, I don't care who they put in the cockpit. My 150-plus-WPM fingers will take 'em all down! :grin-square:

No jump keyboards allowed. Let's get ready to rumble!

Bartram would need a LOT from Shane. I am sure he would play, but I cant imagine what the right game would have to be. I got one. He'll take 2 games on the wire in a race to 9. Fair enough?

lets escrow at least 10 dimes first and then I'll decide if I want to gamble. No point in gambling if the money isn't there.

I agree. The links are nothing but annoying and self-promoting. Who cares about postcards-dot-com anyway? It's a shame that they seem to ruin the topic of every thread they appear on.

Oh, I'm so sorry, but you're not on my Good Action list. It is reserved for only the cream of the crop. Pay Pal not accepted. We deal in cold hard cash in banks. :p

I did a google-search for you, and it looks like you have a "trojan horse"-virus on your computer. Everyone who clicks on your link might get it too.

"Any Windows user foolish enough to click the link and run the executable would get his machine infected with “trojan horse” software that gives others access to their computer." was posted in one of the pages I found.

"Malicious programs installed via links in emails can log keyboard input to steal passwords and online banking details. They can turn your computer into a remote-controlled spam sending zombie.

Such programs have been used primarily by Eastern European spam gangs for sending spam and for hosting illegal websites, such as for phishing scams. However, until recently the Nigerian gangs made virtually no use of malware."

Make sure to run a virus-program on your computer.
