Do you dream Pool?

Shiver me timbers.

I have but I don't dream pool the way I use to dream golf. Back before my doctor said "no more golf", I played golf at least 5 time a week. I had to do different things to keep my mind off golf while I was driving for fear that I'd have an accident because of daydreaming golf. I was always thinking about different aspects of my golf swing. I'm talking about mechanics here. I'm not talking about dreaming about a shot I made. Not that I didn't think about shots I made, but I'm talking about all the daydreaming that I did about the mechanics of the swing and what I needed to do to make it better.

I don't daydream like this about Pool. What does that mean? Not that I don't ever day dream about pool, just not as much and more about the game than the mechanics.

A lot more moving parts in a golf swing. Is there enough mechanics in a pool swing to day dream about? If so, list them? What do you daydream about as related to pool?

My pool dreams are usually about breaking, losing or some other tragedy involving my cue or case! More like nightmares:o

lololololol

let me put it this way... Yesterday I went to the bathroom and thought I was constipated. After I was done I looked in the toilet and it was a 9 ball... O_O;

Do you dream Pool?

Definitely. Mostly about stroking smoothly and going three rails for perfect position.

If I am sleeping on my right side, I do not play pool.

Just from my left side.

I remember reading a long time ago that sleeping on your left side is good for the right side of the brain. And shooting while using the right side of your brain is good. Or is it just that I am right handed LOL?

Yes. I use an elaborate kicking system that I came up with lying in bed after awakening from a pool dream. Just last night in a tournament match, I kicked a one-ball in with this system...

This was an odd thought for me. It never even occurred to me to dream or even think about the mechanics. I dream about position play, routes, pattern play, and things like this. I always felt that once you have a stroke, it is yours, unless you get it changed by instruction. And even if you do that, it will eventually become natural for you over the course of time. I wouldn't think there is a big need to continue thinking about it.

When I taught golf, I wanted people to learn their swing. Everyone has their own swing pending their body shape, size and flexibility. Once they can continue duplicating that with some consistency, I wanted them to learn to let go of that during their rounds. You train your body to repeat a motion then you trust it to do that. (This is an oversimplified version, but my point should be understood.) Golf has many more adjustments during a game than a pool does.

Getting in the ZONE or DEAD STROKE as you will, is the ability to let your body and mind go into auto pilot and let them do what you have trained them to do without letting your brain complicate the thinking. Since there is not alot to the pool stroke, (not that each of as can't use some improvement) I always felt learning to think about routes and patterns and so forth was the best way to improve your game.

But I'm a hacker/banger, so what the hell do I know! I do know that I don't dream mechanics, but as bad as my stroke is, maybe I should start! :D

i dream of pool all the time...but for some reason i always dream that im doing a pretty easy shot into the side but i keep missing over and over again...i guess its prolly because i hate side pocket shots

I guess your right. The golf swing is so much more complicated than the pool stroke. There just isn't as much to think about as far as mechanics is concerned.

I did forget to mention, that when I was into the golf scene heavily, I did have a tough time not dreaming about the swing. It think it was then that I truly learned what the "ZONE" was for me and that taking time away really can give your game boots! Speaking of dreaming, I think I would like to see that old Tom and Jerry billiard cartoon again. I loved that darn thing! :D Now if I were smaller than a cue ball.......*fade to blaaaaaaak.* ZZZZzzzzz

:p

Last night I had a nightmare. I dreamt ratcues (he's putting a wrap on my cue) called me and told me my cue had a slight wobble lol. It was terrifying. He doesn't even have my shaft so I don't know why I dreamt that.

I too had to quit golf. Back problems.

I used to take lessons and I'd spend hour after hour on the practice range totally focusing on every move... every little nuance of movement. I'd bang ball after ball, hundreds and hundreds.

I approach pool the same way. What can I say... I like doing that.

This approach does cause me to dream and daydream mechanics and I like doing that. This also allows me to be able to forget the mechanics when I want/need to let go and let my body do what it's been taught to do... like Donovan was talking about.

My problem is that I do a wonderful job of working on my skills for hours on end dedicated to the task at hand but after several months I get burnt out (I guess that's what happens) and I miss a day ... then another... and first thing I know 6 months, or as was the case this last time, 17 months flies by and I realize I haven't swung a cue.

I don't like this pattern but it has repeated itself several times now. I 'm not sure how to intervene except to try to not become quite so compulsive this time at the table.

A little off topic. But, sounds like a lot of you (with back issues)could use this. http://www.ahs.uwaterloo.ca/~mcgill/fitnessleadersguide.pdf

In case you don't know, abdominal bracing would be about equivalent to bracing to be hit in the stomach. You don't expand or suck in your tummy, you just contract the whole wall.

Hey brother, I think I wrote step number 6 just for you! :D I too got caught up in the golf thing and found step 6 to elevate frustration, improve learning and retention, and above all else, keep me enjoying it. ;)

I had a horrible dream about pool last night. Not about playing, about my cue.

Somehow, David Jacoby got into my basement and started "customizing" my cue (he already built it in real life...). He added some sort of black prongs on the tip, cut the butt all up (some sort of hollow thing with linoleum or something), ruined the predator shaft...oh man it was horrible. You know how trippy dreams get, the thing looked more like a lamp or a coat rack by the time he was finished with it. I kept giving it back to him "This isn't what I want, please fix it." And it just got trippier and trippier.

I love my cue, and I don't need any further improvements upon it. HEAR THAT DAVID JACOBY!!!! Next time you're in my dream, please make me a nice cue, don't ruin my current one.;-)

Not about playing pool, but I dreamt of my cue a few days before fedex delivered it. :D
