Reading a few threads as of late, it's evident that gambling is prevalent in some pockets of the country AND enjoyed by some readers of this forum. Gambling is enjoyed around the world in a variety of venues. Wagers on table games in Las Vegas is a societal norm, but two combatants betting their skills set on a field of green generates mixed feelings.

There is one school of thought that gambling, "pool's little dirty secret," should abolished in order to enhance the image of pool. Some have religious beliefs against gambling, and others have given up for personal reasons.

Some pool folk enjoy participating in games of stake, high or low, ranging from a brewskie, table time, chump change, side-betting, and all the way to five-figure amounts. ;)

This poll will be a blind vote, and there are only two choices for responders to click: yes or no.

This poll will self-destruct within one week's time, but the results will be interesting (IMO)! :)

$5 says more people say they gamble then they don't, I'm serious. I'll PayPal the money. A reply after this that says 'It's ON' by you means ITS ON!!!

Gambling

Hi JAM, it was nice seeing you in Rockville this weekend. Sorry I had to bug out so fast, my wife wanted to get together to watch the Derby. She loves the pony's. Actually, I have a serious question for you that is related to this post.
Do you think anybody who gambles on a regular basis ever comes out on top in the long run? Most of them are trying to make their nut. When crunch time comes around they will do anything to make it. You live with Keith, he once said that he has gambled more money on pool than anyone else in the world. Has he come out on top? Money wise? I sincerely like both of you, so please don't get me wrong. I gamble when I have to just to get a game. I would rather take the cash, grill up some fine steaks, and kick back and enjoy life.

Amen to the steaks there Don, rather have a steak and a good baked potato, with maybe a nice salad...then bet on a game. But I will on occasion pay for lessons so to speak. I got a lesson last eve. I was playing 10 a game 1 hole with this guy, I lost 2 sawbucks and was done. I did win the first game, but he had to warm up. I will play him again cause not so much I think I can win, but he is darn good practice and I call 10 a game 1 hole cheap. 5 or 10 a game is cheapie action, and I can handle that for the most part...it doesn't take away from my steak or sushi money.

Most who say they do, don't. They like to win and will play only with the nuts and when making a game say things like, "No one in this place has any gamble in them", When they are the ones who won't gamble. I gamble small but almost always have the worst of it. When I head over to the pool room I like to play and don't mind making a more then fair game. If I win fine, if I lose fine but I know when I leave the house I will be playing. All I have to do is think about when I was interested in boats. It cost me $200. just to leave the dock as well as $800. a month docking fees and another few thousand a year for this and that. Pool seem like a cheap hobby. Plus, I may out run the nuts anyway.

Think I am in the minority, as I play mostly where I live. I do not gamble by my definition, as our Men's Tuesday through Friday Group plays for money, but the buy into play is a Buck. You can Gamble on individual Games, for $.25 but it is not mandatory.

When I play with that group the most I can loose is my $1.00 buy In. I would rather spend my money on a Cue, or Case I want. Verses playing a Game of Chance.

As no matter how good a Player you are if a Ball Roll Wrongs, you can loose.

Also I see no reason to PISS off people where I live by gambling with my neighbors.

Seriously though, I like the pressure of gambling. I run out much more for fun....but I believe the pressure of a wager (small or large) better prepares me for tournament play. JMO.

I concur. Nothing like a little pressure to improve ones game.

I would bet on your puppies any day! They would definitely be hard to beat. ;)

I gamble all the time.

I like to practice just for fun for made be an hour or so, but after that I need some action that is how the game should be played. I do not understand how someone could only play for fun. I think that your game never improves because you have nothing to lose. even tourney's are a form of gambling. I like the thrill of it all. I'm a good player so why not express that in some way. Just for fun all the time and nothing else is for the birds. :D

Love to...but not with money I can't afford to lose.

So far this year I'm ahead a couple thousand, which isn't bad since I rarely play for anything more than 50 dollar sets to 5.

Cards were kicking my ass until april, hit a weekend that I got back about 800, and have been even or slightly ahead since then.

Been sitting trying to remember the last time I play for nothing....couldn't remember......If I'm playing there is something on it....same with golf.....LOL.....moneys are just fun coupons anyway.......LOL
