Do you put a soft tip on a stiff shaft?

I bought an OB121 with an OB1 shaft and standard Everest tip. OB Cues calls the OB1 shaft a "soft hit." I like the way it plays but wanted to experiment a bit because I'm new to pool and still learning about what I like in a cue.

As an experiment I bought an OB Classic shaft (stiffer shaft) and had them put a Kamui medium on it. (I like Kamui tips from my experience with my first cue, a Player's HXT that had a Kamui soft). I don't like its "feel" as much as the OB1/Everest. It's hard to describe but it just feels "hard".

Anyway, that's the background...here's my question: Do you put a soft tip on a stiff shaft? What's the relationship between soft/stiff shaft and soft/hard tip?

I don't want to give up on the OB Classic, but when I need to play my best I always use the OB1. Does it make sense to put a Kamui soft on the OB Classic?

I use Kamui Black Soft tips on my Classic and OB1 shafts.
I think, in the end, you use what you get performance from.

If im not mistaken, Kamui recommends using a hard tip on a low deflection shaft and a soft tip on a standard or higher deflection shaft. I have tried both and prefer the black SS on a Predator. To each his own I guess, hearing what a top tier player thinks would be interesting.

I'd say it's just to subjective and the only solution is to experiment with your theories of what you're looking for...
I'd also recommend trying the UltraSkin tips, as they are a really reliable, consistent tip...
And then I'd try the Moori's, G2's...and then the milkduds...

Again, there are too many options, to which, one might love, and another not like at all...

And, make sure that whoever does your work, keeps the fiber pad on the OB ferrule...

Anyhow, just my 2 cents...

Try several it is personal taste or like...yet sometimes two or more can agree...find an original French Champion and say hellllo

I use a Kamui Black Super Soft on my OB Classic. I like it. I may change out to a Kamui Black Soft though as I have that tip on my Tiger Ultra X and like it too.

Always confused by this. So what has less deflection?
Low deflection shaft with a super soft tip
standard shaft with a hard tip
I have a OB CLASSIC PRO and could not draw worth a crap with it. Is this normal? I have tried different tips with the same issue. Use my standard shaft and can draw with little effort.

Deflection is about mass, not the hardness of the tip. I'd use whatever feels best for you. All my cues have either 5/16 x 14 or 3/8 x 11 pins. I have 2 each OB-2 shafts for them with either Kamui SS or Ultraskin soft on them. Works best for me.

Many thanks for your replies.

AZB is simply a great resource. Where else could a beginner ask a dumb question and get good ideas from a variety of experienced players.

It looks like I'll try a soft or super-soft tip on the OB Classic and see if that makes it better for me.

That's more about taper than tip, imo.
