I am still looking for someone that can find Black Boar's first one page ad... the one with the cues lined-up next to a violin.... It appeared in Pool and Billiard or Billiard Digest back in 1988 or 1989...

I would like to get a nice scan of that page e-mailed to me....

I may have the actual brochure they were giving out at the BCA show with that picture on the front, I have to look for it. Why do you want it may I ask?

I just bought a Black Boar and I think the model I got is pictured in that ad. I am going to print it on photo paper and hang it in my billiards room (once the room is complete). I have always loved that photo and have wanted a Black Boar for a long time and finally got it.

Thanks for looking! Please let me know if you find it!

I found it. It is a four page brochure on thick stock. These must have cost them a lot when they were printed. There is no price list though. What does your cue look like?

No other pictures just discriptions.

Also... I am wondering where that cue falls on the price scale in relation to the ones with the three diamonds in the butt (center cue standing, and bottom cue laying down). According to the Blue Book, it should be less because of the number of inlays.... However the quantity of ivory is larger... Any ideas?

The AS-9 and AS-10 are more expensive. the AS-10 by the way is the first cue pictured starting from the left. The AS-1 and AS-2 are not pictured if there even was a 1 and 2.

Also from reading the descriptions it seems that the numbering of the models goes along with the price. The higher model number were more expensive.

But isn't the far righthand (standing) cue the AS-8? It looks more expensive than my cue... And what numbers are the diamond cues?

Yours is the AS-8. When I first posted I wrote a 6 by mistake. I have a bird biting me and running around on the keyboared as I am trying to write. The cues are not displayed by numbers they are a little random.

Man, I sure appreciate you posting that picture! It has been over 15 years since I last saw it, I bet. But it still stuck in my brain all those years. It was good advertising I guess!

The cue as they appear in the picture are from left to right.
AS-10, 4, 6, 8, 9. the ones laying down are from top to bottom AS-3, 7, and 5

Thanks! My cue is arriving via UPS today (I hope!), so I am really excited. I have waited a loooonnnggg time to get a BB.

Any interest in selling the ad?

Just as an aside... the first BB I ever saw was owned by a semi-pro Tom Bordeon (spelling?) of Wyoming. He later sold it to a mutal friend, Paul, (which is how I got to see it). It was the AS-5 model. The interesting thing about it was that Paul later found out that is was the very first BB shipped out/sold to a customer. Thought that was cool! It was flawless in craftsmanship and had the nicest linen wrap I have ever felt on any cue anywhere. I also remember that the finish was so shiny that it looked wet. Nicest finish I have ever seen.

I must have like 10,000 or more pieces of pool stuff and I have sold some over the years on ebay. One old brochure for Bill Stroud brought $70.00 so I don't really want to sell it but I will send you a copy of it just let me turn on my message thing and you can send me your address. I don't want anything. I'll make you a nice color copy and copies of all the pages.

Thanks a bunch! I sent you a PM with my info. I also got my BB last night and am so happy with it! The craftsmanship is tight. The hit is godlike. I can't wait to start playing some serious pool again!

I think the AS-2 is just like the AS-3, but without the inlay in the point. There is one for sale... I think on Eric Lee's page for $1800. Also... I knew a guy from Lander, Wyoming... Tony Wert (spelling?)... He had a BB that was completely plain-Jane. No veneers in the points and plain buttsleeve. That must have been the AS-1. So I think all cues are accounted for.

Tony was a protege of Tom Bordeon (again - spelling?) and took 2nd place in the VNEA 8-ball tourny back in 1996 or so, behind Stan Tourangeau. It was a great match to watch.
