I'm not a fan of the purple 5B...at all but the top shelf production of the Matchroom events overshadows this misstep. I like where everything is headed in terms of standardization which is something pro pool has severely lacked. The future looks bright with Matchroom at the helm.

If they want an equivalent of a 9 darter or a 147, they need to stick with winner breaks. There are no high runs in 9 ball without winner breaks. There is an alternate break pack, but then there would be a disincentive to win 9-0, for example, since you would get fewer break and runs.

One of my complaints about the production of professional pool events for years has been how they really haven't taken advantage of everybody having HD (now even better) video access. The game's beauty just hasn't been showcased like it should. This is one reason that I love Matchroom's cloth choice. The colors of the balls really stand out and I think they are gorgeous. May seem like a small thing but those details can really help grow the viewing audience.

I really think Matchroom is on the right track with their 9ball aspirations and everything Emily says in this interview adds to that belief. I still am doubtful that they will achieve the same as they did with darts, though - in terms of popularity, that is.

They should stick to short sets and do a best-of. Race to 5...2/3 sets wins.

Your 147 equivalent would be running the set out.

Thanks for sharing this and I hope everyone in the pool world appreciates what the Matchroom folks can bring to this sport. If you spend some time watching pro snooker it will be more clear. Great production, huge prize funds and a loyal fan base who knows and appreciates the game and skill of the competitors. Exciting time for pool, especially pro players!
