i sold my 9' gold crown about 7 months ago and have since been suffering dreaded, POOL PLAYER WITHDRAWALS. i then found a $100 Brunswick Ventura II pro table on craigslist. i couldn't "just say, "no", so i said "YES!" and gave them my money. the next day i showed in my 62, Chevy 3/4 and we loaded it up. the only thing wrong with it is it's missing the side pockets and has cosmetic "issues" from being in a fool hall all its life. so i got it home and got frustrated trying to get the slate level. as most of us know, a pool table MUST HAVE center supports for the slate or it will bow in the middle causing the balls to run to the center of the table. when i first encountered this problem i was dumbfounded.

so i made some center supports which i shimmed. i could then use the slate screws as levelers. FINALLY, i got it level! the table is as good as its going to get and should play just fine.

the leather pockets that i bought on ebay look nice and match the burgundy wood stain but the metal prongs are slightly more narrow than the orig brunswick pockets. after some fiddling i now know that i can get them to work.

now just one more trip to the hardware store for 8 measly bolts, and i'll finish this table and be able to break my first rack of 14.1. it's 100 balls or bust.....

With your name and the title of this thread, all I saw was "Excited sausage" on the main forum.

Good story..... Congrats!! and nice work! Almost sounds like you rescued an animal from the animal shelter the table being the new pet. Great that it found a new loving home.

Congrats and enjoy,
Darin

i was halfheartedly looking on craigslist for a table when i saw a post that caught my eye. i called the woman and she assured me to hold it for me until i could get out there in the morning. i showed up a little early but she and her hubbie were both there so no big deal. no one was inconvenienced...... i looked at the table and bought it. the base was worth $100, i thought so i couldn't go wrong. i made arrangements to pick the table up the following day at 10 or 10:30am i couldn't remember exactly but showed up at 10:30 for fear of being chastised again for being early. the woman was in a huff because i was 30 minutes late. she knew that i had to drive 1.5 hrs to get there. anyway, i wasn't concerned nor was her hubbie who was playing video games? so we loaded up the table into my 3/4, 62 chev. the woman, seeing my truck said: "is that what you are going to use!?". like i had a semi around the corner or something..... "yeah" i replied. "this ought to be interesting" she quipped. hubbie looks at the truck; "3/4 ton?" . "yeah" i replied. he nods... wifey shuts up.... so we begin loading the table and we're almost done and i say to the wife: "what, did you think i was going to leave my table here.?" hubbie chuckles....wifey says nothing. we get it loaded and before i leave, go over to wifey, shake her hand and apologize for the inconvenience. she says nothing but maintains her sour disposition. LOL....

this was one of those "know it all" women who's telling me all about pool tables before i bought it. "that's where the wax goes" she said, "oh!" i replied, and "everybody knows that you have to replace the felt when you move a pool table." "i see" i replied... this among other tidbits of knowledge and advice. it's no wonder hubbie glues his face to the video screen playing games.....

pics lata tonight. gotta get the rails on.

scott: thanks. i worked hard on that table today getting it leveled, clothed, railed and pocketed. the pockets were a very iffy fit but i got the screws in by assembling the rails upside down. THEN i had to flip it over and it's not sturdy like a gold crown unit. so i had to fashion some braces to give it strength THEN flip it back over. i got it together but the leather pockets are too thick for the staples in my gun. maybe i should use tacks... but i got it to a point where i could play a little. it's now 12:28am and i'm beat. pics later.... and i need a new cue.... if i can sell this ventura II for a little profit, i'll buy this dudes oversized 8', gandy if he still has it. i'm not wild about leather pocket tables. it just doesn't feel as solid as my gold crown.
