Finger Joint

Is it common when cuemakers join the pieces for the butt end that they use finger joints? I have an old Viking that I'm redoing the wrap on, and I noticed that the joint was a finger joint. Is this process more common with companies that manufacture cues?

Thanks,

Glenn

I repaired a Joss once that broke at the finger joint.

I don't think, that the cues with finger joints, have them by design. I am guessing, that they have finger joints because the cue factories buy pre-made dowels for handle stock and the finger joints are actually cut and glued in dowel factories.

I have sold finger joint blanks sometimes through the years. I buy wood from one of Joss od sources and Joss had these guys finger jointing birdseye onto Cocobolo, regular maple and such for them. Well I sent the guy some Bocote and Purple Heart and got them to finger joint them for me. Still have a few of them around. I can't imagine them ever developing a buzz. I would probably sell the bocote into Birdseye ones for $75 each if anyone is interested and I can find them. I only have a few.
