I never really hear too much of people making cues out of fruit woods... why is that? Do they smell too sweet? Is it the hit?

Cus if I had a cue that smelled like apples, well... that would be just FANtastic.:)

Fruit woods are typicall pretty soft (compared to woods used in cues). Some fruit trees are soft enough that they self prune their own branches due to the weight of excessive fruit. It is a survival mechanism.

Persimmon (which is an ebony) is one exception. I am sure there are other exceptions, but generally, the wood is just not suitable for structural pieces.

Kelly_Guy,

You have officially become my Tree / Wood Expert. You have a lot of knowledge about wood. All that I know is moisture content :) Thanks for the info and keep posting.

Thank you Jim, very kind words. There are some folks with more wood knowledge than myself, but I do enjoy learning all I can about the woods in cues, particularly the ones in my shop.
