--------------------------------------------

Our shoulder straps are ok. Comfy and cushy and non-slip. But not as nice as I like. There are dozens of ways to do shoulder straps and I want to use a better one than what we are doing now. I have plenty of versions on my wall but none that I am really super happy with.

I want to know from you what your favorites are. Show me pictures, tell me why, and I will try to make and test all of them that I can.

When we pick the one we like best I will send the person who suggested it a free 4x8 like the one above, you can pick the color, with the new strap and all I want in return is your feedback on how it works.

If more than one person suggests the same solution then I will draw for the winner.

That's it, thanks.

Defintely got to be a convertible. One strap that can split into two, so you can carry backpack style if you choose.

that's a good idea. I did something like that around 18 years ago - I got the idea from a handbag. Castillo is doing a nice version of it now.

I think this little item would make the perfect shoulder strap. It's light. It is color neutral. And, best of all, if you have a bad night at the table you can end it all right then and there.
If I win do I have to drive all the way to China to pick it up?

something like this design would be great...but with the same shoulder pad you're currently using...to improve stability when carrying the case...

I say keep the current pad,but make the strap retractable/lockable,like a tape measure.

This way,the strap doesn't get in the way when you set the case down,or hangs loose so people can trip over it,etc. Tommy D.

I agree that a convertible strap would be a great option. It would be slick if you could use rare earth magnets to hold the straps together, strong enough to stay together when used as a single strap, super quick to convert back and forth, better aesthetics than a zipper, cooler then velcro.

I bought a case once because it had the backpack style double straps. Great idea. But in practice it was more trouble than it was worth- I rarely wore it that way and there were too many straps flopping around.

I would definitely fall for a case that had a secret stash compartment, though- like on this belt. It needn't even be a zipper- it could be velcro, or the magnet like Kaiser Bob above suggests. But a handy way to hide a little folded cash, at chest/ shoulder level, would be sweet.

I own a nylon case of yours and I really like the strap to be wider. it is currently about 2cm wide and I think should be 4cm

and I travel on motorbike, so I would love that the shoulder pad on the strap has a pocket to it, one side is the pad, the side facing out will have a nice pocket, maybe 10x20cm, zipper at the middle or U-shaped. I love to put my fone in that for traveling, and it can keep some cloth for cleaning cues, and some gloves in it.

Like this, not my pic but just the idea.

I think something interesting to try would be one along these lines...

vero-vellini-neoprene-rifle-sling-in-black~p~4245m_02~1500.2.jpg

shape not much different than your standard one, but its non-padded, and the black part is textured wetsuit style neoprene. Its nice because it has good grip on your shoulder so it doesn't slip around, doesn't add much weight and doesn't need to be padded because it has enough flex to act as shock absorption on its own.

I would like to have a 9mm shoulder holster incorporated into the strap. You can add a few pockets for additional clips but personally I've never found that necessary.

That's really nice. Especially with a stretchy material like that, where you can put a phone/ ipod in it-- but if it's empty, it's not bulky.

I really like the idea of the convertible strap that Castillo is doing... It would be nice to see a bit more padding in the wider area, though. The photos make it look like there is no additional padding there. The idea of magnets holding it together is pretty cool, but only if you can find a way to get the strap to close the same way (easily) every time. If you would have to fiddle with it a bit, then the zipper would be the way to go.

I would love to see this strap, combined with a bit more padding, a non-slip surface texture (on the under-side, of course), and the clip-on attachement method, shown below. Being able to remove the strap quickly and easily is a nice feature.

If someone wants a way to keep the strap out of the way when not in use, you could build a slit into the case that the strap can tuck into. I've seen golf bags with this feature and it's really effective.

It would be awesome to see some of these ideas put into JB cases... they are already some of the best around. More strap options would make them even better!

Cheers,

Mike

How about..

Instead of having 3 different handles on the case, have one long strap that can be attached/detached at different points to afford the same uses? Like having clips at different points so that it would create handles in different spots depending on where you clip it.

I like the idea of the backpack style. To avoid any problems, how about a dual strap that has a sliding cover over it? Unhook the top of the cover to allow it to slide all the way down to reveal the separated straps.

Personally, I'm as happy as a clam with my cheap-o flip-open style case. Even the duct tape adds some character. :D

For the most part out cases are carried from the car into the pool room and from car into the home. Have you ever had your case on your back for hours at a time? Through an airport, or lugging one around the SBE? What people on this thread are suggesting sounds good so far. I like the idea of the back pack style that can be a double or single strap. I've tried a backpack style but got annoyed when the case was hitting me in the ass when I walked. My thought is this. Look to bike messenger bags. Wide nylon straps with padding at contact points. When worn over the shoulder it would be diagonal on the back and wouldn't hit you in the ass or the head. Add a strap that goes around you ribs to keep the case from moving around. Make your rib strap removable so that when only going from house to car to pool room and just carrying the case off the shoulder the small strap won't get in the way or look gawdy. Take a look at bike messenger bags to see what I'm talking about. If this design doesn't win, could I still get this on a JB custom case?
