Gilbert Cue

Just wanted to share my new Andy Gilbert Cue. I'm not an inlay type of guy, so asked Andy to make for me a cue that the woods would do all the talking.

It's a 6-pt, 3 high/3 low with ABCDE rings

Ebony Forearm
Three high sharp Amboyna Burl points w/3 veneers
Three low sharp Pink Ivorywood points, no veneers

The same ebony over Pink Ivory is represented in the butt sleeve. The Amboyna is continued in the ringwork.

We agreed on a smooth black leather wrap. Andy did a tremendous job on the wrap.

I received the cue this week, and played my first match last night. Damn cue missed one shot. I'm going to have to have a little talk with Mr. Gilbert about that.

Fred, I see we have some similar tastes in cues. Here is a Skip Weston I designed and had built just recently with Amboyna. It came out great. I sold my Gilbert to get the ivory jointed Skip but I plan on getting another made from him eventually.

Like my Jim Buss Cue? Similar look, but Purpleheart and Cocobolo, with a Curly Maple handle.

Unfortunately for me, I can't seem to play as well with a wrapless cue. This new Gilbert is slated to be my primary shooting cue.

Woods are the ultimate for cues. You made some great choices! The naturalness of woods gives you a beauty that is never boring or artificial.

Congrats on a beautiful cue! I love the solid wood rings sandwiched by thin ivory bands; my Skip will have the same type of ringwork throughout.

One question: I can't really tell from the pictures, but is there a thin black layer that separates the ivory ring from the thick burl ring in the middle? I ordered mine without, and was wondering if it'll have the same effect.

Yes, that's what they are.

And yes, there is a fine black ring separating the Amboyna and the white ring.

Hay Fread that is a nice cue .Pink ivory musta set you back some ? And i do know how you feel about missing 1 ball all night, I just missed one the other day .Out of 4 months i missed one dam ball .I also pick up a Gilbert and will never put it down .Take a look at "the fire " Andy Gilbert cue 04 ..

I hope your next cue hits a ton.
I have two very dark coco blanks.
Still way oversized and curing.

Those are very strong looking Gilberts btw.
I've not hit with one though.

that is one of the most beautiful cues i have seen,congrats!what did that set you back if i may ask? i have a gilbert very similar to deadstrokes and must agree,they hit great,took a month before i missed my first ball with it.

I can't stand that question, what purpose does it serve?? I bet the cue costs more then $1 and less then $3,500. What if the person has a relationship with the maker? What if his wife reads this forum??? The cue is worth what someone will pay, if you want a Gilbert just like it write and ask him how much, my guess is the price may differ (higher or lower). You might as well should have asked him what it weighed. My guess is Fred will not answer and well he shouldn't. (ask him how much his Buss cost)

PS How much did you pay for yours ;-)

i don't think i asked you but since you asked,$1500 for my ivory jointed gilbert,$721 for my southwest and $220 for my WW cue,$1700 for my pfd cue,i can provide weights if you would like.i tried to call mr gilbert but got no anwser and mr buss said he would charge me $1400 for the cue that i talked to him about last week.
