Gilbert Cues

How is the playability and resale value of Gilbert cues? If you had a choice between Gilbert and say, Blackcreek, which would you choose and why?

I've liked the Gilberts that I've played with. I owned one for a few months but sold it because the shafts weren't right for me. Other than that, I liked it a lot. I think they do alright resale wise, also, though when I buy a cue, that usually is not a consideration. I've never had a problem selling a cue, though;)
Never heard of Blackcreek.

Of the two choices, I'd definitely pick the Gilbert. I haven't used a Blackcreek cue, but they don't sell as well as a Gilbert on the secondary market...So if I used it for a while and found something else I'd rather have, I could get most of my $$ back on the Gilbert. Every Gilbert I have had has played GREAT! They do have a little more deflection, due to the taper, than I like or am used-to, but these cues can be easily adapted to over a period of like a few weeks. The original tip he uses, though I'm not sure what it is, is a little hard but gives a nice firm hit. I recommend Gilbert cues of the two choices, even without playing a Blackcreek. I've seen some Blackcreek cues that were just VERY NICE looking, sell for not as much as I would have thought. I'm not knocking Travis' work at all, I just don't understand why they don't sell very well...Here, anyways. I've had 4-5 Gilbert cues (2 fancy and 2-3 j/b cues)

Hey Homer, I am currently selling my Gilbert only because I want a Paul Mottey or James White cue. I had a Mottey 18 years ago and I loved it. I had a lead foot and had to sell it to pay for my car insurance. Oh, young and stupid. Well my Gilbert is the closest hit to a Mottey that I've found so far. Solid, Solid, Solid. The only joint that I will buy is the piloted s.s. joint. I just hit with a buddies Mottey hoppe about 6 weeks ago and fell in love with the Mottey hit again. If it wasnt for hitting that Mottey, I wouldn't be selling the Gilbert at all. If I do sell it, I will definitely buy a Mottey or James White only. I hear they hit the same because they are out of the same shop. By the way, I have never hit with a Blackcreek, so maybe i'm biased. Hope this helps. Dom
