Greenleaf Conversion???

Hi All,

Just picked up this cue. It's an old conversion in very nice shape. Flattest rolling stick I've ever seen...NO light under it anywhere, which is strange for a new stick, let alone one that's probably better than fifty years old! I think it might be an old Greenleaf blank judging from the age and veneer colors. What do some of you Titlist and Brunswick guys think?

Thanks!

Steve

Wow :~)

Wow, I have always liked that type of Brunswick cue. Here is a picture of one that was on ebay 4-18-06. I can't remember how it did, sorry. Bugs.

Better pic of the veneers please

Titlist had a putside purple veneer. The greenleaf cue would be stamped Greenleaf. I forget but I seem to rember the Ralph Greenleaf cue having his whole name burned into the forearm. I also think the veneers were different than your cue. If it has a 18 pin it is a Helmstetter. Helmstetter also made the titlist blanks for a while I believe.

I got this picture off "Titlistsucker's" website, before he sold a lot of his cues. Nick, I think this is what you are referring to?

Here is a better picture of the points of Titlistsucker's Greenleaf.

I hope this keeps the conversation alive. I do love this Brunswick cue over the Hoppe Titlist, but maybe it is just me, for I think it must be more uncommon to see one?

Please give credit for the great pictures to Titlistsucker.

Steve,

To me the cue looks to be made from an imported blank, maybe Japan, where the Adams/Helmstetter stuff was being made in the late 70's-early 80's. I saw that cue on ebay thinking it looked very interesting but couldn't pull the trigger. It certainly looks to be well-made.

The giveaway to me are: the washed out black and the light colored veneer.....that venner looks kind of "taye-like" and I don't that stuff was available over 30 years ago. It could even be holly, again something I've not seen in any real early cues. The prong does looks typical of some Adams cues I've had and seen from that era and even 3rd catalog-on Palmer cues.

Just my thoughts....

Looks like the same blank to me. Over time, the darker colored inks faded. I think it's a Greenleaf too. The dark purple outer veneers are very similar to Titlists. Steve's have faded like the old Titlists do.

I bought the Greenleaf from Raist. In carefully comparing the photos to the Greenleaf cue, I don't think the colors are close enough to be right. To me this liiks like an imported product - high quality- but imported. Probably from the 1970's.

Good eye Tate!

That is what I was looking for. Tha outside purple veneers. No faking that. What do think!!!It dosen't matter. Tate speaks I listen.
Nice cue Steve!

Pawnmon,

You always get the good cues...

The Ralph Greenleaf cue was not made by Brunswick..

Anyone care to make a wager on this in case someone ever finds evidence of who Greenleaf had make his endorsed cues? I like to make bets, they are fun and wholesome. The Greenleaf cues had nice veneered points but the quality of the rest of the cue does not seem to measure up to BBC standards....
