Grip: To squeeze or not to squeeze. Does Earl squeeze.

I use to squeeze the grip a bit and lately I have developing a more consistent grip pressure that is much lighter. Sometimes the cue slips forward but sometimes it does not and I just let it happen. I've seen some good results with this.

I watch many of the pro's technique and good ametuer players at live tournies and I see one grip that is more like a squeeze as the cue comes through the cue ball and I see some doing more of a guiding the cue through the ball with no squeeze.

I am thinking that what looks like more of a squeeze from players actually is not a squeeze at all. Earl seems to have a definate coming down on the butt of the cue with his palm as he goes through the ball. I've also noticed this with Thorsten hohman and many other players. Efren and Santos seem to have more of a light grip where the cue glides through the ball.

Any thoughts on this subject as to the benefits of either grip and any variations to these grips that people know of?
