What material description would you use to describe the black one piece ferrule/tip used by Guylessey on his original Sledgehammers J/B's??? "Linen based? Would like to add that one piece ferrule to my new Gilbert J/B.

Don't have a lathe or want to do it myself. How would I best describe the material for my local cue maint. man to find?? Maybe best to order it from Meulers etc where their brown ferrules are 5/16 inside diameter.? Any other recommendations from the knowlegeable and appreciated cue men here?

Not too confident in my local repairman. Could ship shaft to one of you guys to do if you have the actual ferrule handy.

Thanks alot ---------

joey is right,it is canvas base phenolic.grade CE or C which is basically the same as linen phenolic just uglier and not as resistant to moisture.it is maybe a tiny bit harder also.

Canvas based phenolic as far as I know.
Not linen.

Joey's correct. Linen is no longer used if phenolics as far as I know. Cotton is used instead. Although both, L/B phenolic and C/b phenolic use cotton as the base, the canvas is a coarser weave. I don't believe they make, or at least it's not readily available, black L/B phenolic in a solid size for ferrules. Canvas base it is what is normally used, either natural (brown) or black. By the way, I believe the size that the ferrule material is sold is closer to 5/8" rather than 5/16".

cotton/linen is the same.you can get it in black but like Dick daid the .562 may not be availale so you may have to get .625 whic is lots of cutting.they also make a black that is twice as balck as the Atlas "double black" phenolic, but it is a little tricky to find.
