Hello All from England!

Hi All,

I am a new member on this forum, as i've have posted a lot of posts on another forum, and have spent many of my time in that forum, I am now spending some of my time on this forum.

I am a very knowledable Snooker player, some people may think that I am an expert, if anybody has any questions about Snooker, wheather it be about technique, rules, shots, equipment or any other area in Snooker, I would be pleased to answer it.

I cannot believe how many people are on this forum, and most people are Americans, I am not though and I am across the seas in England, United Kingdom, so I hope everybody makes me feel welcome!

I am quite a knowledable Pool player but mainly in the techniques, I spend most of my Cue Sports time playing the wonderful game of Snooker instead of the wonderful game of American Pool, but I watch as much as I can on TV.

So that's my life story! I hope that everybody makes me feel welcome,

As I take part in a lot of Snooker dicussions on Snooker forums, it will be interesting to take part in Pool discussions.

Ok, Welcome. I am also from England but live in the USA. Just so you know, There are alot of people on here that are way more knowledgable on the game of American pool. We have some ot the top pros in the world come on here to chat. Be careful what you say around here as it is easy to get blasted by people. The reason I say this is that you come across like you know everything and that people on here should look upon you as the resident Expert. I know that you probably didn't mean it but please remember that there is years of experience in all cue sports on here. Other than that Welcome. Where are you from in the UK?

I know that there are many, many knowledable people on here, but I am one of them, I do not want, or expect people to look up to me, but I am just here for any questions people may want answered if they have not all ready asked the pros.

He did not suggest that he "knows it all" or that we should look to him as the "resident expert."

He stated that he was knowledgable and that "some people" think he is an expert. He was just trying to establish his are of expertise but you read into his comments a degree of self-aggrandizement that simply are net there.

In any event SnookerAndPool, please accept my genine and unqualified welcome to the forum and let me ask you the first question.

There has recently been comments about the merits of the open snooker stance vs. the more closed American pool stance. Noted pool guru, Bob Jewett has recently stated that he is going to delve into that matter.

So, would you please comment on the positives and negatives of the snooker stance in regards to the American pool stance?

You know how it is on here, ypu can start with something simple and end up getting blasted for it. I know he didn't mean to come across like I think he did. I was just trying to help him and give a heads up. Again you know how nasty people can be if you miss a beat.

Even if the OP is trying to come across as a know-it-all, I don't think it's right that you warn him against it. You're not only biasing his experience here and limiting his free right to act like a know-it-all, but you're then depriving us of the opportunity to really give him the you-know-what for coming on here and acting like a know-it-all. It just gripes my a**.

SnookerAndPool, welcome to the AZforum, whether it be good or bad we're all just "one big family" of billiard enthusiast.

I started out playing snooker when I was just 12yr., so my stance is very low to the table, and I think it has helped my overall "pool game" over the years to "shoot straight"!......once again, Welcome Aboard!

Welcome, I too am English, and was rootin' for you blokes loud and clear too drill those darn Pinoys in the last world 9-ball championships , you all keep it going over there as I feel your vast experience of taking snooker to the next level gives your countrymen an advantage over the rest of the world, and its nice seeing another culture have what it takes to surpass those who have dominated 9-ball for quite some time, nerves of steel. Jack Flanagan - I am not sure why you cannot find English phrases in my post, I am English, and I have made quite a few posts on thesnookerforum.com, I spend most of my time, when on the internet, on TSF forum, but I have a different username. I do spend quite a bit of time on here now.

I would spend time on all different Snooker, Pool and Billiard forums but I do not have the time to go on all of them.

av84fun, The merits of an open stance is that you can get a wider, firm base for the shot, if you slightly change the feet position, to suit ones body, then you can get very good balance. Not too wide but still firm and controlled!

For the closed stance, it can be very comfortable. But it can sometimes not be as firm and balanced as the Snooker stance.

I am not sure on what part you want me to give detail to, I hope my answer helps you.

A lower stance can help you get the cue parallel to the table easier than a taller person, it can make your stroke straighter!

As a Snooker table is higher than a pool table, it is easier, in my opinion, to get a more flat cue action.
