A long time ago, the 5-ball was $1, the 7-ball was $1 and the 9-ball was $2.

3-6-9 is a pretty common gambling game, you get paid on the 3 and the 6 and double on the 9.
Why only for 9 ball, there is 10 ball and 8 ball also. You can make the 4 be 1 pt and the 14 be 1 pt, and the 8 2. Then all tournaments will be like gamblers looking for an edge or leagues looking for handicaps and counting points instead of wins.
it's called 5-9 here in scandinavia, in sweden it's probably the most common gambling and handicap tournament game. 5-ball worth 1p, 9-ball worth 2p, races to 21, winner breaks. every rule is identical to 9-ball except that the both point balls spots if made on break/combinations.
