what would be a good barometer a seller could use for how long they should wait or how many times they should "bump" a for sale thread before lowering the price or pulling the sale??

Etiquette would suggest a bump every 24 hours or so...
You'll know within a matter of days whether there is a lot of interest in the item you are trying to sell. But not everybody checks the For Sale threads everyday. So you should know within a week or so what the level of interest is...

Bumping every 24 is ok...but there wouldn't be a need for it if there wasn't so many threads that have nothing for sale in them and should be posted in the main forum;) I'm all for no bumping at all if they can some how come up with a templet that only lets you fill in the cue spec's or other billiard item and etc.. Also, you never know when the right buyer is going to come along and have money to spend. Also,I dont think we need links to items for sale on ebay.I list it here and if there's no action I might try ebay but dont link it and give updates on how much time is left! Pretty much everyone here also scans ebay for cues so its just a waste anyway. I bump as much as everyone else bumps and recently just for the hell of it started keeping track of bumps by seller only and like 90% of it was the lister and the other 10% part of the good old boy bumps..you know, how it shouldn't list long and what a great cue bumps..very little from acual interested buyers. The markets as bad as ever but it doesnt hurt to have a little fun and have cues up for sale. Personally,if a cue sits for a awhile it doesnt mean the price should come down or the value of the cue has fallen, its all up to the seller if he wants to give his cue away because he has rent to pay, doesn't mean I need to lower my cue to match his needs.IMO

I see a lot of what I call frustration bumping. Someone has something for sale that is moved off the front page by threads with nothing for sale, or completed sales that have a running conversation about after the sale stuff.

Just because an item does not sell in a day or a week does not mean it does not belong here. A bump every now and then is O.K. Who knows what kind of deal may transpire with an item for sale, and keeping the thread alive with a bump is better than a new listing every week of the same item.

Kind of on the subject, but a pointer to a poll I am running on cue movement for last cue listed for sale. It never got to start at the top because it took so long to create.... or I am just reallly slow. I say no more than 1-2 bumps spread over 24 hours in the first 3 days. If no action, no more than 1 per day and after a few days, reduce the price bumps only. Enough people see these cues in 72 hours, that if there is going to be action at your desired price, it will be immediately felt. Otherwise, it is priced too high for this market. Just my opinion.

Let me add that bumping does not necessarily equate to sales. I have people PM me about an item that I have forgot I had for sale. The item had not been bumped in months, but it was still out there for someone to find.

What are the Unmentioned Rules?

I'm very new to selling on AZB. Although a member since 2007, I just started selling in 3/2008.
I get nasty PM's about bumping. For example: I sell the same item of which I have multiples of...after a month I may have bumped 20 to 30times. -OR- I start a new thread every few weeks with different prices or new sale...Now I just received a PM telling me I shouldn't start so many threads for the same item. My head is spinning.....should I bump...should I start a new thread?!? :banghead: :help:
I will admit that in the beginning, I didn't know the "unmentioned rules" here and did bump too much.:nono: I appologized to the ones who pointed this out to me. Now I try to bump no sooner than once in 24 hours.
I don't want to upset anyone...face it that's not good business!! So let me see if I have this straight...

1. Bumping is allowed every 24 hours.
2. New threads should contain a new price or new info.

So...How many threads a month on the same item would be OK? That is if I follow rule #2 (above)?

Thank You for bringing up this subject!!!! Great Idea!!!

I think the ideal place for you to advertise here would be on the banners across the top of each page. You won't have to worry about offending anyone and you will get more than enough exposure every day.

I agree whole heartedly on this point. Maybe we should use some of the money that we pay each month towards the AZB site to run a commission to see if bumping threads has anything to do with the sale of a cue, and what conditions of bumping are considered proper, and what ones really work to buy/sell/trade cues. I agree to run the commission, and make sure the agendas are met in the proper amount of time to help with focusing our BUMPING resources where they would be best used.

This is not the first thread dedicated to "questioning" the PROPER procedure of thread bumping, and probably will not be the last. It just seems funny to me to be asking the question, when there are already very good answers in older posts that could be found using the search function. Maybe a commission needs to be started to see how to better utilize and promote the search function here on AZB.

So my question is this: WHY are you asking? Let's just be upfront, and truly say what we mean around here, and not go off on another ambiguous question about proper bumping, when I believe that this is more than that. Maybe I am wrong - but I do not think so. Just spit it out, and complain about the specific people or threads that are ruining the site by bumping out of control.
Nothing wrong with being honest around here, as long as we handle it like adults.

Otherwise this thread is useless, and just makes the CUE SALE threads need to BUMP again to get their item back on page 1 - I am even guilty by posting on this thread - but so be it.

Nothing wrong with a little BUMP & GRIND!!!! popcorn drama icon1.gif

Regarding "UnGlove":

We kind of went around on this before, so, here is my input. You are not selling as a private individual, or a custome cuemaker, but as a manufacturer of mass produced same item goods. For it to be right for you, it should be right for Q-Wiz, Q-Cube, and the whole slew of other billiards related accessory makers to sit here and bump their products every day. I vote NO. 50+ threads promoting your 'product" is excessive. Maybe your product is popular enough now to get some wholesalers or retailers to carry it and advertise it in their e-stores.
I see you saying "Oh, once a day is okay?" NO, it is not. I do not care if I get red repped for this post, but apparently you are not getting it.

Most people have been exposed to your "Unglove" ads by now and if they want one, can easily find one, by searching for "unglove" and retireve any one of 50+ threads you have started here. If yopu continue, then maybe, I should start bumping Q-Wiz for sale every day, because I think everyone needs to be exposed to Q-Wiz.

Here is a summary of your threads: http://forums.azbilliards.com/search.php?searchid=1841524

Unless you make a commitment to stop these threads, I will be first in line to ask for your suspension.

50 bumps in a thread of 56 posts in which the posts other than yours were asking you to stop bumping!

Ok guys, Let the flames fly. I know they are coming. I just say it like it is.

Nice idea...But I don't have the $1,000's it costs....wish I did!

i bump 2x a day depending on how fast the site is moving. am and pm.

also depends on how bad i need to move the cue for a price drop

Sorry...But I am ONE person...Not a CORPORATION. I personally make the UnGlove. I custom size them to any request. I have been selling them since Feb. 2008. I am like any cue maker or JP maker. I personally make each UnGlove by hand out of my home. I don't have thousands to sell...In fact I only have 20 right now to sell. Please don't compare me to a "BIG" Billiards Company...I'm NOT!!!! If you thought I was a big billiards company, then I can see why your upset. But I'm not! Please don't jump to conclusions before you get the facts.
Also, I stated that I bumped way too much in the beginning. I admitted that...And I don't do that ANYMORE!! Please look at last few posts to see that I don't! Let's be fair...And get the facts first...Please!
Never heard of Q-Wiz...What is it??

I give up! You think that justifies your continuous bumps and threads. let's see... 8 positive sales posts for how many bump posts?? Get real.

I think this should go to a poll vote to see if anyone wants your ads here any longer. You deifnitely think you are justified. I and numerous others disagree, so I think that moderator action and red reps may be called for if you continue.

I am done with you.

I'm not sure what you sell/buy here on AZ??

Maybe you sell Billiard Gloves and your sales are down because of my new product??

I'm sorry if that is the case.

If not...Maybe you just like to "Stir the Pot"...as my grandmother use to say...

..for me, I have better things to do with my time.

Sir, We are totally done here!! I refuse to beat a dead horse!

For your information. I have sold over 50 items here.

i really was interested in opinions regarding private, non business sales.........in my opinion those who make cues, billiard products or make somewhat of a living selling them shouldn't abuse the use of the for sale section. notice i didn't say not to use it just make your pitch and a bump or two and then let it ride. maybe another section just for business sales would be in order. that being said lets hear ONLY those opinions for private sales.
