How to Build a Career in Billiards

Growing up my dad, a very strong player but also a Sunday school teacher, taught me how to play at the bowling alley. Some bowling alley’s had a separate billiard room for families. The one I learned at had 8 nine foot gold crowns.
Same here. In North Jersey, we used to go to Butler Bowl on Route 23. They had a full size bowling alley and about 12 Gold Crowns. Later on, they replaced the pool tables with slot car racing.

I found the article. It’s on the main page, not the forums. I think whoever wrote it is a complete banger with no pool business experience, and is somehow using crypto stuff to make some side money. His article had a link to crypto crap in the beginning section. Weird article.

At first I thought the article was even AI generated. It has a bit too much specific knowledge, thus I now think a banger wrote it.

Thanks for the context.
Article has no depth or insight.
....in other news, water is wet.
To the o.p.'s concerns..
The junior organizations do a good job at creating an environment for younger players to compete. Many of today's pros came from this system.
Having practice or league during the day on a weekend is common.
Big tournaments can and are held in convention center places rather than bars or casinos.

I don't want my kids or anyone else's at the bar.

Reminds me of the old joke "How to make a million dollars gambling?" Start with 5 million. ;) Pool IS getting WAY better $$-wise but i'd still go to school and have a solid back-up plan. I know guys that work that are pool weekend warriors and they do pretty well playing a lot of FR stuff.

I had a friend that quit his job to pursue the dream and I think he only got a nightmare. He was good but not world beater good and if he stayed at his job he would've had money to gamble and if he went broke he had a paycheck coming the next week. I loaned him some money and specifically told him that it's a loan not backer money. I cornered him one night after he finished playing and made a good score and he couldn't say he was broke. When I was walking up to him he knew what I wanted.

Pre-Katrina, the one near me wasn't too bad.
Pre Katrina Houston’s crime rate was amount the lowest in the country. Then the NOLA Gang Bangers showed up. They’re all dead or in jail now. A lot of their own deaths were murders by their own members. I had rental properties (duplexes in Alief). They took over the area just like what's happening in Colorado and Ohio. They would just move into vacant units and it was really hard to get them out. They'd set up utilities (water, electric). Then they’d hang sneakers over the power lines to mark locations where drugs are being sold. I have some photos, I'll post them if I can find them.

Groups of 21 yr old women, dressed to the 10's on a night out, drinkin' actin' out showin' their stuff.
Not what a 14 yr old girl or boy should EVER be around.

You mean they shouldn't go to the Mall or Walmart? They shouldn't watch videos that their friends send them from TikTok or Instagram? There are just as many good influences in the Pool hall as there are bad. This ain't the 70's or the 80's when the places were full of degenerates, most of the place are more sports bars than Pool halls and full of league players with real jobs and family's.

If the kids are out before the late night crowds they are very unlikely to see anything lude.

Agree 100%. The days of the men-only gambling dens are fading fast if not done forever already. Place i play, Magoo's in Tulsa, is a big sports bar that allow kids. They have the bar elevated and only 21 can go up. Some young players but not enough.

No, perfect time for Motos.
Perfect daytime driving, tourists are gone, roads are safer little rain, plus hit a couple hot springs.
Ask me where too go.
You don't have to go that far once you hit Fremont Country/front range to get what you seek.
Moved here outta college early 70's.

I understand your post, just saying that kids shouldn't be in a bar AT All EVER and they shouldn't be in a Pool hall after 7:00pm anyway so they shouldn't see the worst that our society has to offer drunk and misbehaving.

Was workin' there During the Burgman/McMinn high school years, when they played in the BCA Jr. Nationals.
Loved the room but more so the owners and their family members.
They reminded me allot of my cousins.

The best approach for building a professional career in pool should start with sign making.
Perfect your skills to produce masterful signs…….start with the most popular & useful one.

“Will Teach Billiards In Exchange For Shelter, Food & Water.”

Now as far as taxable income, need not be concerned…..one’s expenses tend to exceed one’s winnings.
