How to clean wood shaft after every use?

What can we use to clean shaft after each playing session or each day of pool?

When I google all i see are these methods where we need to burnish and reseal the shaft with conditioner or wax.

I just want to give it a wipe. Just to keep the grime from building up and making it feel sticky. or something to make sure that ive clean off the oils from hands after each use. Recommendations please.

I wash my cue when I wash my hands. When I still have soapy water on my hands I wipe from tip to joint. Rinse and wipe with clean water then use a paper towel to wipe dry and burnish.. The oil from my hands has given the maple shaft a seal that keeps the wood from absorbing before I wipe it dry. A paper towel choked tight and pulled from tip to joint provides a squeek when clean.

For the record, I clean my shaft about 2× a year.

Slightly damp cloth
linear rubbing on the shaft
until enough of the blue chalk dust is gone
then let it sit for an hour to dry
then a coat (or two) of paste wax
then let it sit for an hour so the wax can cure
then burnish until all residual wax is gone
then 3 strokes on the talc pyramid.

damp paper towel and then a dry one
Damp with what? Water, 90% rub alcohol, all purpose cleaner, or distilled water?

How long do u burnish. I thought burnishing generates enough heat to evaporate oils, which is the reason for conditioner... because u just open up all the pores.

It's real quick. And just a few strokes up and down with the dry paper towel.. The squeek tells me when it's clean and dry..

Yea, that's a full blown deep clean, which works better with a magic eraser.

I'm looking for an easier maintenance step. I can run like 5x Week, or once a day The same way I take an alcohol pad and wipe my carbon shaft - Except for wood. Maybe wood is too sensitive. I guess a dry microfiber is all I should use.

The cue slider facilitates minimum friction. Still need to keep the shaft and slider clean. I wash the slider weekly, well weekly (now). There was a time I played a lot more. Shrug 🤷‍♂️
The button tab allows a pinch of variable tightness. The Joy of the open bridge.

🤷‍♂️ Simple, 🤔 kinda like Jui Jitsu.
The either hand availability is a feature as well.

Microfiber toward joint is probably not as good as microfiber away from the joint. Spritz 90% before swipe maybe.
Maple, maybe they should water and solvent proof those. Same finish as the newer CF.

Microfiber towel. Rub vigorously. That's pretty much all that's needed. Eventually the shaft may start to feel sticky. At this point I'll hit it with IPA and follow it up with renaissance wax.

I have a spray bottle with 90% alcohol in it. I use it daily to clean my phone. When I do clean my shafts, I spray that on a paper towel and go from the joint to the tip. I also clean the joint threads on the screw, and inside the insert with a cue-tip. I would not hesitate to do that every day on them. IMO.

I’m a little hesitant to admit this but I’m thinking I can’t be the only one. The only thing I clean my cue shaft (carbon or wood)with, is my untucked shirt tail. If I’m using anything else, it’s probably because I made a mess while eating or drinking.

You are not the only one.

I use your untucked shirt tail, too.

I thought ur comment about solvent proofing a wood shaft was funny. I mean it would just end up feeling like CF, which defeats the purpose of having a wood shaft. Which is why I dont understand Cuetec Avid shafts. Cover a wood shaft in fiber glass so they can put the word "Wood" in the description.

The only way I think you could create a solvent barrier is by using some car body ceramic coat or ceramic spray. And I assume it would not feel like wood anymore either.
